Best Books To Read At The Beach This Summer

Add as preferred source on Google

Summer is finally here, and with that comes beach trips. Or trips to the pool if you’re not into the beach. During those trips, whether in the car or by the water, you need something to do. Reading is one of the best things to pass the time. And it’s also a great way to disconnect from your phone and social media.

But now that you have decided you wanted to read, you also need to pick a book to read and that can be a challenging feat. Unless you already have an idea. But you should still keep reading because it might give you some more ideas.

The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren

The Unhoneymooners follow the story of the always unlucky Olive. When her twin sister Ami gets married, she is forced to spend the day with her sworn enemy Ethan. But her bad luck doesn’t stop there. Everyone at the wedding gets food poisoning from bad seafood; all except her and Ethan. So the pair are forced to spend ten days in Hawaii pretending to be newlyweds. Nothing sounds worse for Olive. However, when they get to Hawaii things don’t seem all that bad.

The Unhoneymooners is at the top of the list of books to read at the beach. Firstly, it is set in the magnificent setting of Hawaii (which is dreamy) and secondly it’s extremely funny. I will not hide it, I laughed out loud so many times. If you want an easy read, a happy feel-good comedy to enjoy sitting at the beach, this is definitely one to pick up.

Beach Read and People We Meet On Vacation by Emily Henry

Emily Henry is the queen of cute romance books. People We Meet on Vacation is, as the name implies, probably one of the best books to read while on holiday. The book follows Poppy and Alex, two best friends from university who love to travel together. But recently the two have drifted apart, so Poppy organises a trip to bring them back together. She has a week to fix what’s wrong in their friendship. What could possibly go wrong?

Beach Read follows two polar opposite writers. January Andrews the romantic happy ending writer, and Augustus Everett a fiction writer who does not believe in happy endings. At all. When the pair is forced to be neighbours for the summer they make a deal to get out of their writers block.

Beach Read and People We Meet On Vacation are not Emily Henry’s only books but they are two of her best novels. They are wholesome love stories, they are funny whilst also serious at the same time. All in all, there is no doubt that Emily Henry’s books are definitely perfect beach reads.

The Seven Husbands Of Evelyn Hugo and Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid

If you want something to keep you on your toes, the books by Taylor Jenkins Reid are ideal. The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo follows a famous actress from the 60s, Evelyn Hugo, as she gives a final interview to a relatively unknown journalist. Evelyn recalls the story of her life, the highs, the lows and everything in between. This book was beautiful. The writing is incredible and the story will make you look at your own life in a whole new way.

Malibu Rising follows the Riva siblings in 1983 as they give their annual end-of-year party. The four Riva siblings each have something hide and it is a well known fact that secrets cannot stay secrets forever. The drinks will flow, the music will play but by the end of the night the house will have gone up in flames.

Taylor Jenkins Reid is an incredible author. The Seven Husbands Of Evelyn Hugo and Malibu Rising are not her only books but they are two of her standout novels. If you need one book for one day at the beach then either are perfect.

American Royals by Katharine McGee

This trilogy is set in a world where you should imagine the United States having a Royal Family. When George Washington won the Revolutionary War he was offered a crown not just the honour of being the first American President. This trilogy features his descendants, including the Princess Beatrice who is getting closer and closer to becoming America first queen’s regnant.

There is so much to look forward to in this book. All the royal siblings trying to make it through life rather normally, something hard when you are the sons and daughters of the royal family of America. There are illicit meetings, tropes that everyone will love (no spoilers though)! These books are perfect if you are spending a few days at the beach, because its a trilogy!

The Summer I Turned Pretty and To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han

Any book by Jenny Han is sure to be a great companion for the beach. Her writing is easy to understand and fun. To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before follows the story of Lara Jean Covey. Lara Jean has never admitted to her crushes that she’s liked them. Instead she writes them letters and leaves them in a hat box, preciously hidden.

But one day she finds that all her letters have been sent. All the boys who’ve received letters confront her about it and there is nothing she can do about it. Until one Peter Kavinsky enters her life. This trilogy is the perfect beach companion. It will make you laugh, it will make you cry: all the emotions are there. And once you’re done with the books, all three movies are on Netflix for a movie night after a day at the beach.

The Summer I Turned Pretty is THE book of the summer and that is due to the show of the same name that was released at the start of the summer. The books follow Isabel ‘Belly’ Conklin as she spends her life at the family beach house in cousins beach. For Belly everything good happens in summer.

The trilogy is a fantastic quick read if that is what you are looking for. And once again, when you are done reading the books you can binge the show on Amazon.

Here we have rounded up some of the best books to take with you on your next beach trip. Summer is not over, it is only just starting! All these books will make you want to keep reading all day long. Which book will you pick up next?
