The Summer I Turned Pretty Makes Us Want To Have The Same Summer

The Summer I Turned Pretty is finally here and between the Taylor Swift songs in the background and the idyllic scenes, it’s making us all want the same summer.

On June 17 the book-to-television adaptation dropped on Prime Video and ever since it has been blowing up. Belly’s summer holidays seem perfect – days out at the beach, swimming whenever, beautiful surroundings, and beautiful people. All in all, it’s making us want to have almost the same kind of summer.

What is The Summer I Turned Pretty About?

The show follows Isabel, aka Belly’ as she is known to her family, who spends her summers at Cousins Beach. Her summers are spent at the beach house with her mother, brother and her mother’s best friend and her sons. Jeremiah and Conrad.

However, this summer, when the show picks up, everything is a bit different, it even feels like the last summer, for all the characters. Conrad is going to university in the autumn and something just feels different. For the first time, Belly is noticing boys other than Conrad (who she’s had a longtime crush on). And boys are noticing her too.

The cast includes newcomer Lola Tung as Belly, Christopher Briney as Conrad, Gavin Casalegno as Jeremiah, Jackie Chung as Laurel, Rachel Blanchard as Susannah and Sean Kaufman as Steven.

What makes us want the same summer?

First of all the location of the show. If you’ve watched the show you will know that the show and the beach house are set on Cousins Beach. However, Cousins Beach is a fictional place invented by the author of the book Jenny Han.

But if you want to spend somewhere just like it the show’s filming locations are as close as you’ll get. The show was filmed in multiple locations across the United States – from Cape Cod to the Hamptons, to Nags Head and Martha’s Vineyard they all give off the same ‘Cousins Beach’ vibes. And While Cousins Beach might not be real all the locations seem magical enough to make us want to get in our cars and drive straight to the beach.

Let’s talk about the house though. The house where the majority of the show is set, also known as ‘Becks House’ makes us want the same beach house. Their own beach, a swimming pool and a view of the ocean? We need it straight away. There’s no doubt about that.

While there is plenty of drama throughout the show there are also a lot of happy moments. Home-cooked dinners, a debutant ball, parties and bonfires on the beach, bike rides to the beach and late-night swimming. It all sounds good to me, sign me up.

And although the 4th of July is not celebrated anywhere outside the US, the celebrations in the show makes us want to join in. BBQs, fireworks and good food what is there not to like?

It’s finally summer for us

Now that the world is almost back to normal it’s time for us to finally have the summers we’ve been dreaming about for two years. And The Summer I Turned Pretty makes us excited about having summer at the beach.

It’s finally time to explore those places that might resemble Cousins beach and have the same experiences. Well minus the whole love triangle drama.

Also, you’re only going to want Belly’s summer even more soon enough as Prime video has already renewed it for a second season.
