Best Things For Students To Do In Stockholm

Zoe Kramer February 5, 2023

Known for innovative design, pop music, gorgeous scenery, and much more, Sweden is a fantastic holiday destination for students. If you’re looking for a city experience, Stockholm is a fantastic and unique place to check out. So if it’s not on your bucket list already, you should definitely consider adding it. There are so many things to do that you could be occupied for weeks, but here are a few of the best things for students to do in Stockholm.

The Vasa Museum

The Vasa Museum holds a preserved 17th century ship that sank on its maiden voyage. It remained underwater for quite some time before it was retrieved and preserved. Now, you can see it for yourself, and it is remarkably intact. This museum is great for maritime history enthusiasts or anyone interested in learning more about this unique ship and the time period it was built in.

The Royal Palace

Another one of the best things for students to do in Stockholm is the Royal Palace. This Baroque style palace has over 600 rooms and quite a bit of history. You can check out the treasury, the medieval history museum, or the Museum of Antiquities. If you go in the summer, you can see the Royal Chapel, too. You can see the many ways the palace changed from the early 1700s to the present day, and how each monarch had an impact on the place.

Gamla Stan

Stockholm’s oldest section of the city is well worth a visit. You can see the roots of where the city first rose to prominence as a medieval trade hub. The cobblestone paths will take you under different passageways and past a variety of excellent restaurants, boutiques, museums and more.

Boating

One of the best ways to see Stockholm is from the water. There are a variety of boat excursions you can take, including one that goes underneath the city’s bridges and takes you from the Baltic Sea to lake Malaren. You can also catch a three hour ferry ride that goes out to Sandhamn.

Fotografiska

Even if you’re not a photography buff, Stockholm’s premier modern photography museum, Fotografiska, is a great place to check out. It’s world renowned for a reason, with a well curated gallery featuring international and national artists. You can also attend a workshop or lecture, if you’re interested to learn more. Plus, the gift shop has some great prints you can bring home with you.
