Sometimes, life is just plain overwhelming. It can be easy to get caught up in the minutia of everyday stressors: bills, shopping, studying, and work. While there are a number of ways to cope with stressful feelings, one great way to do so is by playing relaxing video games. These games allow you to escape into another world for a while. They’re perfect for playing wrapped up in a blanket with your favourite hot drink and a snack. So here are some of the best cozy video games that can help you destress.

Stardew Valley

Stardew Valley is a classic and universally loved indie game that’s perfect for unwinding. The game follows a farmer who quits their city job to take care of their grandfather’s plot of land in a town called Stardew Valley. The game is fairly unstructured, and you can take each day at your own pace, spending your time farming, foraging, fishing, mining, or building relationships with the townspeople.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is another cozy video game favourite. It became especially popular during the peak of lockdown, but still has a huge following. You can catch bugs, fish, fossils, customize your island, grow crops and invite various villagers to be your neighbors. Whether you enjoy collecting, decorating, or getting to know the different characters, this game has something for everyone.

Cats Organized Neatly

Cats Organized Neatly is pretty much exactly what it sounds like. If you enjoy spacial reasoning and organization type puzzles, this is the perfect game for you. Plus, it has the added cuteness of the different cat shapes. The puzzles get increasingly complex as you continue, so it’s a rewarding challenge.

Journey

Journey is truly a game like no other. You enter a mysterious desert world which you spend the game exploring. There’s no dialogue, only beautiful atmospheric music as you progress through different environments and solve various puzzles. It’s incredibly calming and meditative, and definitely worth giving a try.

Potion Craft

Not only is Potion Craft relaxing, but it’s also beautiful to look at. You play as an amateur alchemist moving to a home in a fantasy medieval village. You collect herbs and other ingredients, grind them in your mortar and pestle, and then combine them to make different potions to sell to the townspeople. It’s calming, and has plenty of opportunity for progression.
