Fans have been left asking ‘who is Damon Albarn?’ as he joined Billie Eilish on stage for day two of Coachella.
The 20-year-old was the youngest headliner of the exclusive and affluential festival and during her set she brought out two special guests: former Blur frontman, Albarn, and Khalid. Except the audience just wasn’t sure how to respond to one of these stars.
Elton John or Billie’s dad?
The British star made his guest appearance during Eilish’s performance of ‘Getting Older’, the lead track on her sophomore album Happier Than Ever. The 54-year-old appeared to forget some of the lyrics to her song, but the star laughed it off.
When the song was over Billie said: ‘This is the craziest shit I’ve ever experienced. This man changed my life in a lot of ways and changed my complete view of what music could be, and what art could be, and what creation could be.’
However, where as Billie was ecstatic, fans were confused – with some asking if Albarn was Eilish’s dad or even Sir Elton John.
An ‘Interesting Choice’
Other’s called it an ‘interesting choice’ for the young singer to bring out Albarn, especially after his controversial comments he made earlier in the year involving Eilish and the 11-times Grammy winner Taylor Swift.
In the new year, during an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Albarn incorrectly claimed the 32-year-old ‘doesn’t write her own songs’. He then went on to praise Eilish for her song writing abilities saying she is a ‘really interesting songwriter’, calling her music ‘exceptional’.
He said: ‘I’m more attracted to that than to Taylor Swift. It’s just darker — less endlessly upbeat. Way more minor and odd.’
Albarn received backlash for the comments from not only fans but Swift herself when she called his ‘hot take’ on her song writing ‘false and so damaging’.
