Ryan Reynolds has been teasing fans about the upcoming Deadpool 3 since the end of the second film, but now things are really heating up as Shawn Levy has been tipped to direct the Marvel movie. Below you can find everything you need to know about the film.
What we know about Deadpool 3
The third instalment of the Deadpool franchise was confirmed way back in January 2021 when Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige spoke to Collider during which he revealed Deadpool 3 would be on Disney+, would be R-rated and would be part of the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe).
He said: ‘It will be rated R and we are working on a script right now, and Ryan’s overseeing a script right now… It will not be [filming] this year. Ryan is a very busy, very successful actor. We’ve got a number of things we’ve already announced that we now have to make, but it’s exciting for it to have begun.
‘Again, a very different type of character in the MCU, and Ryan is a force of nature, which is just awesome to see him bring that character to life.’
This will be the first Deadpool film following Disney’s purchase of 20th Century Fox, which released the first two instalments.
Will Shawn Levy Direct?
Shawn Levy didn’t direct the first two films in the Deadpool franchise but he is no stranger to working with the 45-year-old actor.
Levy recently worked with Canadian-born Reynolds directing the movies, Free Guy and The Adam Project – the latter was only just released on Netflix on Friday March 11 – and with the success of those it’s no shock he’s been tipped to direct the upcoming Deadpool flick.
The tip comes from a very reliable source as it was Reynolds himself who teased it with a post on social media in which an image shows his Free Guy and The Adam Project characters alongside Deadpool with a caption stating the next movie in his ‘Shawn Levy trilogy will be a tad more stabby’.
When Will Deadpool 3 come out?
Unfortunately, a release date for Deadpool 3 is yet to be announced. But with Reynolds teaser on the day of The Adam Project was released it doesn’t seem like we’ll be waiting too long for confirmation on the date it’ll be dropping on Disney+.
