The final two parts of Stranger Things season 4 are finally here, and viewers will finally get the answers to so many questions like does Vecna die?
It has only been weeks since volume 1 dropped but it’s felt like years for fans waiting to find out the fate of the show’s characters and its main villain, as the penultimate episode and finale dropped today, July 1, on the streaming site.
***SPOILER WARNING: Spoilers of Stranger Things season 4 volume 2 below***
Who is Vecna?
Viewers first met Vecna when poor Chrissie was murdered right in front of Eddie Munson’s eyes – which ultimately the poor guy would get blamed for.
Vecna goes on to kill twice more before he targets one of the gang, Max. He kills his victims by putting them in a trance. On the outside, they just seem glossed over, but in their minds, Vecna is in front of them and when he grabs their head they begin floating on the outside
This bit does happen to Max, but she is luckily saved by Kate Bush – well, her song ‘Running Up That Hill’ rather than the singer herself.

Vecna is more than a creature running the Upside Down it revealed he was once human, a little boy named Henry. He was the son of a man named Victor Creel who was thought to be lost in the murders of Victor’s wife and daughter.
It turns out Henry was actually the cause for them. Victor explained his son Henry wasn’t killed in the same way as his wife and daughter and actually slipped into a coma and passed away after their deaths. Again, it was revealed this wasn’t the truth, Henry never passed away but was taken by Dr Brenner – the man behind Eleven’s captivity – as he has gifts like Eleven and he is subject number one.
Henry/Vecna is responsible for the deaths of all the other gifted children but is stopped by El when she pushed him into the Upside Down, where he learns to control the creatures already there.
Does Vecna die in Stranger Things?
In the final episode, El goes to take on Vecna while Max uses herself as bait to draw him out and make him vulnerable. Unfortunately, Vecna is able to overpower El and both she and Max are almost brutally killed by the creature.
However, Mike comes to the rescue when he tells El how much he truly loves her and she finds the power to free herself and fully neutralise Vecna, saving Max from his grasp at the same time.
When Vecna is paralysed Nancy, Robin, and Steve set his body, which is in the Creel house, on fire and shoot him with a shotgun. This causes a huge earthquake as the Upside Down seems to push into the real world and things like the bats that were attacking Dustin and Eddie disappear – so it would be safe to assume Vecna has finally been killed.

Will, however, has other thoughts. When he returns to Hawkins Will sits with Mike and tells him he doesn’t think Vecna is dead, just badly hurt because he can still ‘feel’ him – the pair were connected in season 2.
Then the gang walk outside of the house to see the sky turn colour and eerie blue/grey particles fall from the sky. Anyone would think it’s snow or ash, but the gang knows better. Once they wander into a field the sky over the town turns grey and red and lightning is striking from the sky – just like in the Upside Down.
It looks as if Will might be right and Vecna might only be just getting started. I guess we’ll have to wait until season 5 to find out what will happen to Hawkins.
