The Stranger Things creators revealed they’re ‘still working on’ the final two episodes of season 4 as well as confirming a time jump for season 5.
Speaking with TV Line ahead of the release of Stranger Things season 4 part 2 the Duffer Brothers have teased what is going to happen in the fifth and final season of the show.
Season 5 is ‘pretty mapped out’
Season 4 part 1 of the show has already proven to be a hit as it continues to break records and soar to new heights – and darker storylines – but for the Duffer Brothers, they’ve already set their sights on how to end the iconic series.
One thing’s for sure, the directing duo says they’ve got the last season ‘pretty mapped out’. Matt Duffer said: ‘I’m not sure we’re ready to say yet a start date for shooting. But a lot of it is pretty well mapped out.’

But instead of even teasing a hint at any plot details, the brothers confirmed they’re actually subject to change as the cameras start rolling for the series.
‘We learn a lot every time we make a [season],’ Matt explained, ‘We’ve learned a lot just working with all of our new actors and the ones that we’ve worked with for a long time over this year [making Season 4], so I’m sure it’ll change a little bit from that outline.’
He explained the one thing everyone is finding difficult is the ending saying they want to ‘stick the landing’. He added: ‘The ending is the hard thing. That’s obviously the stressful thing. We really want to stick the landing.’
Still working on season 4
One thing that the brothers are pretty set on is the final season of the show will do a time jump, due to the pandemic constraints meaning they were unable to film season 4 and season 5 back to back.
Ross Duffer explained: ‘I’m sure we will do a time jump. Ideally, we’d have shot [Seasons 4 and 5] back to back, but there was just no feasible way to do that.
‘So these are all discussions we’re going to have with our writers when we start the room up.’
However, even with all these plans for season 5, it seems the duo are actually still grinding hard to get the final part of season 4 ready for its release in July as Ross revealed they’re ‘still working on’ it.
‘Believe it or not, we’re still working on Season 4,’ he said, ‘We’re trying to finish the final two episodes, they’re so massive.’
