Last week, I suggested a couple of ways to make your beauty routine more eco. This time, it’s eco-friendly ways to travel.
Not all of us can afford electric cars or scooters to keep our carbon footprint down, but that doesn’t mean we can’t keep our planet in mind when travelling on a daily basis.
Car Share
It will save you money as well as the planet. Car sharing means there are fewer cars on the road and, therefore, fewer planet unfriendly fumes clogging the o-zone. Plus, it means there’s less demand for petrol – a source of fossil fumes. Car sharing is really easy, just catch a lift in with a friend or colleague to work or uni, and belt out some tunes on the way. Even if it means you’re somewhere slightly early, you can grab yourself a coffee and know you’ve done your bit for the planet that day.
Electric Buses
I live in Cardiff and, recently, there’s been a surge of electric buses. In fact, I see more electric buses these days than petrol ones. Now, if I need to get a bus, I jump on an electric one and know that it isn’t damaging the planet. Of course, not everywhere has electric buses available. But just using public transport instead of a car is a real step in the right direction. Even if there are only ten people on your bus (which is never the case), that’s ten cars off the road, making it a much more eco-friendly way to travel. Having a car can be really convenient, but can get to where you need with public transport next time you travel?
Walking
The most eco-friendly way to travel, and it’s completely free! Not an option all of the time, obviously, but taking a slightly longer stroll to get somewhere has endless benefits. If you live in a city as I do, then you might find walking is just plain easier anyway. As I’m writing this, there’s traffic outside my window and I know I could get into the city centre faster on foot. As I said, it can’t be done all the time. But think of those five-minute drives to the shops that would be a fifteen-minute walk instead? Good for the mind, the body, the wallet and the planet – walking doesn’t have a lot of cons.
