Elon Musk has called out celebrities such as Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber for not tweeting ‘enough, and has asked ‘is Twitter dying?’ due to these top accounts.
The Tesla owner called out the celebs after he took to the social media platform to point out the most followed accounts on the app – of which he was number eight.
The billionaire then decided to pick out the two pop stars as examples who ‘rarely’ tweet saying Swift hadn’t posted in months and Bieber in a year – a contrast to the 50-year-old who posts several times a day.
Musk and Twitter
The CEO of Tesla and Space X bought a whopping 9% stake in the social media giant last week, however it was confirmed yesterday he would not be joining the board of the company. However, this hasn’t stopped him fuelling rumours of his influence over the app.
Musk had already speculated changes to Twitter’s features, Twitter Blue, before asking his 81 million followers whether they want an edit button – then the app confirmed the would be working on an edit button, but insisted it wasn’t because of the new stakeholder.
Not on the board
Since his buy-in to the compant, Parag Agrawal, the CEO of Twitter, confirmed Musk has declined to join the board, via Twitter.
Tweeting to his 500k followers he said: ‘Here’s what I can share…’, it seems lots happened behind the scenes we may never know about. However, Agrawal went on to say that the company ‘will still remain open to [Elon Musk’s] input’.
Since his buy-in to the company and his criticism to some of the top accounts it’s unclear what game Musk is playing with his questioning, what influence he really has on the company, and what his next move will be – as he’s certainly one to keep his millions of followers on their toes.
