A few months ago it was confirmed that the Australian powerhouse actor, Margot Robbie, is set to play the legendary role of Barbie in the upcoming film.
When will Barbie be released?
The Barbie film is currently filming and is set to be released 21 July 2023. However, it is not yet known if this is the American release date or the international date.
This film is set to open at the same time as Christopher Nolan’s star-studded movie Oppenheimer. This now has critics and film buffs alike wondering which will come out on top.
Warner Bros Studio tweeted out a photo of Robbie in the iconic role. This sneak peek showed Robbie kitted out in the perfect ‘Malibu Barbie’ aesthetic. She is also seen in the trademark Chevrolet Corvette convertible.
Other Barbie cast members
A whole array of A-listers are set to grace our screens in the new Barbie film, not just Robbie. La La Land and Blade Runner 2049 star Ryan Gosling has been cast as Barbie’s sweet and attractive boyfriend Ken.
Other cast members include: Will Ferrell (Step Brothers), Alexandra Shipp (Tick, Tick, Boom!), Kate McKinnon (SNL), Simu Liu (Shang-Chi and The Legend Of The Ten Rings) and Hari Nef (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel).
On 27 August 2022, Simu Liu tweeted, ‘Come on Barbie, Let’s go party!’.
Academy Award nominated director Greta Gerwig will also co-write and direct the film along with Noah Baumbach.
Last year, Robbie said that this role ‘comes with a lot of baggage… and a lot of nostalgic connections. People generally hear ‘Barbie’ and think, ‘I know what this movie is going to be’, and then they hear that Greta Gerwig is writing and directing it, and they’re like, ‘Oh, well, maybe I don’t.”
