Met Gala 2022: Best And Worst Dressed

Manon Lamy May 3, 2022

The first Monday in May has come and gone. However, the Met Gala will not be dismissed straight away. This yea’rs theme, In America: An Anthology in Fashion Part 2, featured Gilded Glamour as its main focus. Gilded Glamour left quite a bit of interpretation for the guests attending the event. However, they did not disappoint. On Monday May 2, the steps of the Met were filled with absolutely incredible outfits, jewels and trains.

So here we go with 18 of the best and worst dressed of the 2022 Met Gala.

Blake Lively in Versace and Ryan Reynolds in Ralph Lauren

At the top of the best dressed list are Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively.

The gala’s co-hosts showed up in style. Lively stunned the room in Atelier Versace. Her beautiful dress paid homage to the Statue of Liberty and the Ceilings of Grand Central Station. She even changed from a bronze look to an aged bronze look. No one does it quite like her.

And of course we can’t forget Reynolds. He looked dashing in his Ralph Lauren suit. The co-hosts really understood the Gilded Glamour theme.

Kendall Jenner in Prada

Kendall Jenner did not disappoint once again. Dressed in a beautiful Prada top and skirt, accompanied by bleached eyebrows, she was the belle of the ball. The Met Gala is not the place to play it safe and Jenner knew it. She wore a custom black tulle Prada top with a net embroidered overlay which she paired with a black silk-satin skirt with ruched details.

Gigi Hadid in Versace

Leading the worst dressed celebrities is model Gigi Hadid in Versace. While she definitely stood out from the crowd, that outfit might leave some people wondering what the thinking behind it is. She wore a burgundy corset over the top of a red skin tight latex jumpsuit. Did she get the memo? The theme is Gilded Glamour. We’re not sure she did.

Kourtney Kardashian in Thom Browne

Once again, we might need an explanation over what Kourtney was going for. She wore a Thom Browne outfit which she said was a deconstructed tuxedo like a deconstructed version of Travis’s outfit. Not quite what we were hoping for as Kourtney’s Met Gala debut.

Cardi B in Versace

Cardi B showed up and did not disappoint fans. As well as coming in this stunning Versace dress, the singer songwriter arrived in a car to match her outfit. Talk about an entrance. She took Gilded Glamour quite literally. But she looks absolutely stunning. No miss there.

Billie Eilish in Gucci

Billie Eilish did not come to play. Eilish showed up in this incredible Gucci dress and corset. She knew what Gilded Glamour was. The singer definitely topped the list of best dressed celebrities for another year. The hair do reminds us of Marilyn Monroe and the jewels of the gilded glamour theme. We approve.

Sebastian Stan in Valentino

Sebastian Stan was the definition of too much pink kills the pink. The actor, who just released Pam and Tommy on Hulu, came dressed in the wild pink ensemble from Maison Valentino. Yes he definitely missed the mark with that outfit. And he missed the theme. At least he respected the memo of dress outrageously. But that’s all we can say.

Kylie Jenner in Off White

In true Kylie Jenner fashion she wanted people to look at her and in this dress they most certainly did. The reality star wore this Off White wedding dress in collaboration with the late designer Virgil Albloh who passed away recently. We need an explanation about the hat though. Definitely a miss this year for the star.

Vanessa Hugens in Moschino

The actress had a Moschino moment. Vanessa Hudgens impressed in this stunning, sheer Moschino gown. Jaw dropping if I do say so myself. The dramatic hair and makeup brought the whole outfit together.

Quannah Chasinghorse in Atelier Prabal Gurung

The Native American model and First Nations activist came dressed to impress. She was wearing a stunning blue gown. It paid tribute to her heritage and to Indigenous people. She accessorised with traditional Indigenous jewellery.

Camila Cabello in Prabal Gurung

The Met Gala can be quite hit or miss. And unfortunately for Camila Cabello it was a miss this year. The floral Prabal Gurung dress looked stunning but, in reality, there was just a little too much there for our taste. She tied the whole look with a massive lavender flower. Not quite. The plus side of this dress? It’s entirely sustainable.

Kim Kardashian in Jean Louis

Talk about a goddess. Or a Marilyn Monroe reincarnation. Yes that is Kim Kardashian. The star looked radiant in this old time inspired gown by Jean Louis.

Alicia Keys in Ralph Lauren

True to her song and her hometown, Alicia Keys attended the Met Gala dressed as the city that never sleeps. The star sparkled in this Ralph Lauren Gown. She certainly knows how to show who is the boss.

Sarah Jessica Parker

The ‘And just like that’ actress came in style. But not only. According to Vogue, her dress pays homage to an unsung black designer. Sarah J Parker told Vogue that her dress pays homage to Elizabeth Hobbs Keckley. Keckley was the first Black female fashion designer in the White House. She nailed the theme once again.

Kaia Gerber in Alexander McQueen

The model set the bar very high this year. Dressed in this stunning Alexander McQueen dress, it looked like Gerber came straight from a painting. She was stunning.

Jessica Chastain in Gucci

Whilst Jessica Chastain got the ‘gilded’ memo, we’re not sure she got the ‘glamour’ one. An interesting look to say the least. This red sequin gown whilst stunning is just a little too much. However the turban, definitely a choice to have made, had her pay homage to Norma Desmond.

Emma Stone in Louis Vuitton

Emma Stone looked absolutely stunning in this Louis Vuitton dress. Channelling the 20s there is no doubt that she was a hit. Louis Vuitton dressed a number of guests at the gala. And they all looked incredible. Emma Stone was no different.

Here you have 18 of the best and worst dressed at the Met Gala. Unfortunately there were over 100 guests so we could not cover all the stunning outfits. Some were hits, some were misses. But everyone looked their best. Do we know what else happened?

No idea, that is a secret well guarded.
