Fans of The Umbrella Academy were thrilled to find out that they were getting a new season back in November 2020. The highly anticipated series will finally be released on Netflix on Wednesday June 22. You’ll be able to binge all 10 episodes at once, so get comfy.
Season 2 Recap
After the first series, the Hargreaves siblings were all forced to escape by jumping through time, thanks to Number Five (Aiden Gallagher) and his abilities. They ended up separated at various points in the 1960’s. They get caught up in their new lives and struggle to leave them behind.
Of course, there’s a lot of battle and fight scenes and new and old enemies along the way. Five ends up finding a time-travelling briefcase that allows them to go back to 2019, but all isn’t as it was left. Their father was alive and the ‘Sparrow Academy’ had taken their place. Ben was alive and a part of it, with no memory of The Umbrella Academy.
The Trailer
There are so many things to be excited about this season. After that cliffhanger, we all want to know who the Sparrow Academy are and what they want. Netflix released the full trailer on 19th May, which you can watch below:
Five explains that, when they travelled back to 2019, they created a “time paradox” and essentially, the group are “screwed”. They have days before the rest of existence is “blitzed.” Sounds fun right?
The trailer also incorporates The Umbrella Academy’s usual combo of upbeat music with dramatic fight scenes. We love to see it.
Viktor Hargreaves
After Elliot Page came out as transgender in December 2022, fans have feared where that leaves his place in the show, as his character Vanya is female. However, all doubts were squished when Elliot posted on Instagram introducing Viktor Hargreaves, the newest member of The Umbrella Academy.
Who actually are the Sparrow Family?
As well as the old fan favourite cast all returning, we have a new family on the horizon. In January Netflix released the character posters, giving the fans a first look at the new cast members and their characters. More recently, a thread of tweets has been released with a bit more information about the new characters, and how they seem to parallel the old.
