Taylor Swift has dropped the music video for the song “Bejeweled” from her Midnights album and fans think it has easter eggs for Speak Now (Taylor’s Version).
On October 21 the 32-year-old singer/songwriter dropped her tenth studio album – which broke the record for the most-streamed album in a single day in Spotify history – and premiered her first music video for the album on the same day with the song “Anti-Hero”.
Just days later, after an appearance on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon, Swift dropped her second visual for the album, with the song “Bejeweled”.
Taylor Swift’s Bejeweled Music Video
In Swift’s music video for “Bejeweled”, the 11-times Grammy Award Winner takes on a Cinderella role in a fairytale-like story.
The tale plays out with Swift being mocked by her wicked stepsisters – played by the Haim sisters – and her evil stepmother – played by Oscar winner Laura Dern.
When speaking with Jimmy Fallon she said: ‘I wanted to make a video that’s just for the fans who like certain things like glitter and Easter eggs and lots of little cameos.
‘So basically I was thinking about Midnights, the concept, and I was like where do we hear about midnights a lot? We hear about it a lot when we talk about the Cinderella fairy tale and so I was like what if we did a little twist on a Cinderella story and I could cast my friends? My best friends, the Haim sisters, what if they played the stepsisters? And I was like what if we really shoot for the stars with the other castings? What if it was Oscar-winner Laura Dern playing my stepmother?
‘I was like, “Oscar winner Laura Dern, hello, I’ve written a script. It’s a one-scene script in which you are going to call me a tired, tacky wench.’ And she was like, I’m down. She’s the coolest. She’s so funny. She’s another one, I’m like, ‘friend. You are my friend now.”‘
The video also features Dita von Teese as her “Fairy Goddess” – rather than fair godmother – in a scene where she shows Swift how to do a strip-tease-like performance. And also features her longtime producer and co-writer Jack Antonoff and “legendary makeup artist and creator Pat McGrath”.
Taylor Swift Bejeweled Easter Eggs for Speak Now TV
One other thing Swift confirmed when she was talking to Fallon is the music video for “Bejeweled” has a “psychotic amount” of easter eggs, she said: ‘We have a PDF file for the Easter eggs in this video because there are so many that we could not keep track.’
After the video premiere, Swifties have been avidly searching it for the various easter eggs. Many are convinced it’s hinting her next re-recording – following Fearless and RED this year – will be Speak Now (Taylor’s Version).
Fans point out the easter eggs her Speak Now songs “Enchanted” and “Long Live” are played in the background at the beginning and end, respectively and the dragons at the end represent the line from “Long Live” where Swift sings: ‘I had the time of my life fighting dragons with you.’
While others picked out she pressed the button for floor 3 in the elevator scene and they think it represents Speak Now will be next as it was her third studio album and its colour is purple, as is the button.
