Netflix has dropped the first eight minutes of Stranger Things season 4, episode one, and it leaves so many questions.
One week before the upcoming season is set to premiere Netflix has gifted fans with just enough to keep them going and drive them mad with questions all from an eight-minute segment of season one.
The First 8 Minutes
In the clip, it takes viewers back to 1979 – before the events of season one – and to Hawkins National Laboratories, where Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) was raised alongside other gifted children. Loads of them the video reveals.
Dr. Brenner (Matthew Modine) is shown completing his morning ritual, of completing a timed crossword with breakfast, before going to work at the labs. He takes another child, who has the number ‘010’ tattooed on his wrist, to do some tests. During the session, Ten is asked to look for a Dr. Ellis, but when he finds them, he realises that Six and the doctor are dead.
In a surprise attack, Brenner is knocked unconscious and when he wakes dozens of the gifted children and his staff are dead. He follows the carnage into a large room where he finds a younger Eleven and asks her: ‘What have you done?’ After the upside-down and the Russians, the question that arises is: is Eleven actually going to be the biggest threat to the world? Along with a whole host of other questions like ‘why’?
Like I said: SO. MANY. QUESTIONS.
Season episode split
Along with the video Netflix also confirmed how the nine episodes of season four are going to be split between the two volumes.
In the Tweet the streaming site confirmed volume one, airing May 27, will have seven episodes and volume two, airing July 1, will have two episodes. Two super-long episodes according to the Duffer brothers.
In a recent interview with The Wrap, the brothers said several episodes in the season will be like ‘movies’ and the final episode will be ‘over two hours long’.
Matt Duffer: ‘Seven and nine, in particular, are movies. And nine is a long movie.’

After this, when his brother Ross was asked exactly how long they’ll be he said: ‘We’re still refining it but we will say that it is over two hours. It’s a big one.’
Matt then explained the reasoning behind the long episodes was to make sure they could give fans as many answers as they possibly could within the time they had.
‘The more we were writing, the more we realized we need more time in order for these reveals to land, in order for these storylines to work,’ Matt explained. ‘Partway through we knew we needed to ask Netflix for nine episodes instead of eight and as we started shooting we realized, Oh these are mega-long episodes.’
