Some books are so good you didn’t want them to end, with this in mind we found five books you didn’t know had a sequel, you need to read.
We all know the obvious sequels from series such as Harry Potter or The Chronicles of Narnia, but there may be some books that you thought were stand-alone which do in fact have a second or even third instalment.
Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns
The Devil Wears Prada is not just a classic Meryl Streep film, it is in fact based on a 2003 book written by Lauren Weisberger.
Many people know of the first book, but not of its sequel! Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns was released a whole decade after the first instalment.
The second book sees Andy and Emily team up to create their own wedding magazine, The Plunge, which becomes so successful that Miranda Priestly herself wants in on it.
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz
We all know of the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz and whilst that is based on a book, many people do not know that the book is part of a larger series.
L. Frank Baum created the ‘Land of Oz’ and went on to write fourteen full-length books surrounding the land and its weird and wonderful creatures.
The first book in the series was published in 1900 and details the plot of the 1939 film. The subsequent instalments include titles such as Ozma of Oz, The Patchwork Girl of Oz, Glinda of Oz and The Marvelous Land of Oz.
The March sisters: Little Men
Little Women is an iconic book written by Louisa May Alcott, originally published in two volumes in 1868 and 1869. There have been two films made based on this book.
After Little Women was released, there were sequels written, however, they were less prominent than the original. The first sequel came in 1871, titled The March sisters: Little Men. This novel follows two homeless boys as they are sent to a boarding school run by Jo and her husband, where they learn both academic and life lessons.
In 1886, Alcott published Jo’s Boys which follows Little Men, detailing the lives of those two young boys as they grow into men.
The Wedding
The Wedding is the second instalment to the highly popular book The Notebook, which was made into a film of the same name.
The Notebook saw the lives of Noah Calhoun and Allie Nelson come together with love, heartbreak and all that comes with life.
Seven years later, The Wedding was published. This details the life of Wilson Lewis, the son-in-law of Allie and Noah who is forced to admit the truth about his love life.
Gump&Co.
Forrest Gump was published in 1986 and subsequently had a film made in 1994. The original book details the life and adventures of Forrest Gump. From being a ping-pong champion, to serving in the army, he even manages to stumble his way into every significant historical event; this man is a wonder.
After the success of the first book, author Winston Groom wrote a second instalment titled Gump and Co. which sees the shrimp market explode and Forrest unable to handle the demand. To make matters worse, Lieutenant Dan sells his shares in Bubba Gump Shrimp Company to fund his retirement.
