With 18 universities in London, and many other higher education institutions dotted around, the city is filled with students from all across the UK. There are five types of students you will see on the tube, so which one are you?
This means that the London Underground is going to be populated with students heading from their student accommodation and flats to university every morning and evening.
While students are usually grouped into one category, there are many different types of students that you can expect to see on the tube each day. Let’s take a look…
1. The tired one
Let’s be honest, we’ve all been this student at some point. Maybe they were out late the night before, maybe they pulled an all-nighter revising, or maybe the giant pile of work has truly exhausted them. They can usually be seen yawning every minute, clutching a coffee as if their life depends on it, and trying not to blink for too long in case they fall asleep.
2. The late one
This student is often seen running for the tube every day with their coat flapping out behind them and hair flying in their face. Usually, they collapse in a relief on the tube seats a split-second before the doors close and spend the entire journey catching their breath and trying to get their body temperature back to a normal level.

3. The one who is well and truly done
They are fed up. And they look it. All students have been there at some point.
4. The cool one
This person has got public transport down pat and never looks flustered. They wear the freshest outfits every day, somehow always manage to arrive at the platform just as the train arrives, and never have an issue getting through the barriers (railcard needs topping up? Couldn’t be them).
5. The lost one
They’re probably a fresher and are spending their first few weeks at university in London and you can spot them a mile off. They’re standing on the wrong side of the escalator, they don’t wait for people to leave the train before trying to get on, and they frantically check the Citymapper app every 30 seconds.
