Summer is well and truly on its way now that exams are almost over, and what better time to explore the second city? Uni students have a long summer ahead (we’re talking four months or so) but looking for something to fill that time can be difficult…and expensive! Luckily for you, I’ve rounded up a list of free things to do in Birmingham this summer so you can make memories without breaking the bank.
Visit The Library Of Birmingham
Okay, the last thing on your mind right now is probably reading. Afterall, you’ve spent a whole year doing just that. However, The Library of Birmingham is a stunning work of art and is worth a visit even if you aren’t planning on taking out any books. If you head up to the Secret Garden you won’t be disappointed, looking over the whole of Birmingham with beautiful greenery to keep you company. There’s also a Shakespeare room if that’s more your thing!
Look Around The Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery
Are you a creative student? Do you love history? If this sounds like you, a trip to Brum’s museum and art gallery can make for a fun (and free) day out! You can gaze at paintings and artefacts until your heart’s content.
Take A Trip To The Birmingham Donkey Sanctuary
The Birmingham Donkey Sanctuary is free to enter and, while it may be located in Sutton Coldfield and away from the city centre, it still makes for a fantastic day out. Who doesn’t love a free trip to meet some super cute donkeys?
Go On A Digbeth Graffiti Art Walk
Digbeth is a highly cultural and creative part of Brum so there’s no surprise that there walls are covered with amazing artwork! Why not have a walk through Digbeth, making sure to bring your phone to take as many Instagrammable snaps as you desire? Your feed will thank you for the bright and colourful content!
Walk Through Cannon Hill Park
Going to Cannon Hill Park on a perfect summers day is just what we all need. Away from the hustle and bustle of the city, grab a picnic blanket and your favourite snacks and admire nature at its finest. Once you’re done eating, why not feed the ducks and go on a lovely stroll among the greenery?
Admire Artwork In The Barber Institute Of Fine Arts
Located at The University of Birmingham, The Barber Institute of Fine Arts is worth paying a visit to. Admire some of the finest pieces of artwork around, from paintings, sculptures, coins and drawings. There is bound to be something that catches your attention and, for free, you really can’t go wrong in heading down there and seeing what it’s all about!
