The end of the school year is a pretty major thing, especially if you’ve been taking exams or it’s your last one. Though you’ll be there for most of the day, you should still use any of these fun ways to celebrate the last day of school.
Students all around the country have been taking exams, with the last ones happening for GCSE students this year. However, even if it’s just been a regular year, getting through it should still be celebrated.
Unfortunately, the last day of school is ruined by…school. Sure, you can say goodbye to your teachers and friends you might not see over the summer, but it seriously gets in the way of doing something fun.
However, that doesn’t mean you should treat it like a normal day. There are plenty of hours still left in the day and most of them still have daylight. Make the most of that immediate freedom and celebrate the evening away!
Before You Leave For The Summer
Of course, the last day isn’t like any other. You won’t be doing any learning and it’s all about saying goodbye. So, there are a few things you should do to commemorate the day before saying “See ya!”
- Take a photo
You’ll never be in that year of school again, and maybe not with the same people. If you’re allowed, snap some photos with friends and teachers to hold on to forever. You could do it as a year group, or just with your best friend. If you do it every year, you’ll have some super cute memories to look through!
- Take a walk through the school
This is especially the case if you’re moving to another school in September. Walk through the grounds and have a look at your old classrooms once again. No doubt seeing all these places will spring some memories into your mind. We recommend doing this with a friend to really hammer home the emotions.
- Write stuff down!
You don’t want to forget the year, so write down your favourite memories or inside jokes for you to look back on. Use those photos you took to write messages on so you’ll always remember the people in the picture and when it was taken.
If you want to be really sentimental, you could take messages with people and write them messages on the back. Tell them things you’ll never forget about them or treasured memories you have together.

Fun Ways To Celebrate The Last Day Of School
Right, now that’s all done, freedom is all yours! It’s time to do something super fun to celebrate the occasion. After all, it gets to a point where you’ll never have a last day of school again!
- Go For Ice Cream
What better way to celebrate than with dessert? You and your friends can treat yourself to your favourite ice cream at a parlour, making sure to get all the toppings. If ice cream isn’t your thing, then any sweet treat will definitely do the job. As long as it’s incredibly tasty!
- Take A Bowling Trip
There’s nothing like some bowling to get out of the stress of the year. This could be with family or friends, but there definitely needs to be some competition. Bowling alleys usually open a little later, so they’ll be plenty of time to head down when school finishes.
- Have a BBQ
When you think of Summer and celebrations, BBQs definitely come to mind. Plus, this can just be in your back garden with very little fuss and money. Invite as many or as few people as you want. You can add music and games to make it more of a party, or chairs and blankets to make it more chill.
- Plan Something With Your Family
This one is a little vague, but it’ll have to be a family decision to get you all involved. If you just want to spend time with your family to celebrate your last day of school, then think of something you’ll all enjoy. It could be going out for food, taking a trip to the cinema or even going to the beach.
- Have A Picnic With Friends
Take a detour to big Tesco on your way to the park to pick up your favourite snacks and you’ve got yourself a dream picnic for your last day of school. Have someone pack a blanket that day, or have a parent drop it off and you can spend the warm sunny evening chatting, making summer plans and picking at some tasty food.
You could just have your close-knit friends, or invite loads of people to make it more of an event. If you can get hold of some, it’s the perfect opportunity for a water fight too…
