Holiday Don’ts: What Not To Pack For Your Summer Trip

While the internet is filled with packing lists, there isn’t much information out there on what NOT to pack, which can be just as important to know.

There are the obvious don’ts, such as liquids in your hand luggage, weapons, and flares, there are some things you might not realise you probably shouldn’t pack.

When luggage is so expensive, you want to maximise space and only pack what you’re actually going to use. Here are items you should not pack on your summer holiday:

Valuable Jewellery

While you may have jewellery that you wear every day, whether that be rings, a necklace, bracelets, or earrings. However, you don’t want to take anything abroad that you would be upset if you lost.

Your jewellery could fall off in the sea (e.g. Kim Kardashian’s diamond earrings), get lost, or potentially be stolen. If your suitcase gets lost, you don’t want there to be valuables in there.

Hard Back Books

Summer holidays are a great place to sit back, relax, and finally catch up on the books you’ve been meaning to read all year. However, hard-back books are probably best to leave behind due to how much they weigh. You also don’t want to pack books that will be inconvenient to carry to the beach and the pool, or books that you would be upset if they get sandy and wet.

Pool Floats

Pool floats may seem like a fun idea but they take up a large amount of space in your cases, and you may not even be allowed them in your hotel pool. If you are limited on suitcase space, you could always buy a pool float out there from a beach shop for relatively cheap.

Hair Dryer

This is actually useful to bring, but it is helpful to check if the hotel has one. There’s no point taking up valuable space in your luggage by packing a hairdryer if the hotel already has one in the room you can use.

Clothes for Every Weather

This is pretty self-explanatory. If you’re going on a hot summer holiday, there is no use in packing several jumpers and hoodies. Check the weather beforehand, and pack accordingly.
