Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon has been confirmed to return for season 2 after only one episode has been aired.
Fans of the HBO show, which only premiered on August 21, will be elated as House of the Dragon will officially be returning for a second season, according to a Warner Media statement.

In the statement Francesca Orsi, Executive Vice President, HBO Programming, said they are all “excited to continue bringing to life the epic saga of House Targaryen with season 2”.
She said: We are beyond proud of what the entire House of the Dragon team has accomplished with season one. Our phenomenal cast and crew undertook a massive challenge and exceeded all expectations, delivering a show that has already established itself as must-see TV.
‘A huge thank you to George, Ryan, and Miguel for leading us on this journey. We couldn’t be more excited to continue bringing to life the epic saga of House Targaryen with season two.’
This comes after the first episode received incredible critical praise and became the biggest series premiere in HBO’s history, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
House of the Dragon
Set hundreds of years before the events of the OG show, House of the Dragon chronicles the beginning of the end of House Targaryen and the events leading up to the Targaryen civil war, known as the ‘Dance of the Dragons’.
Packed with huge names the audience was introduced to all the main characters including Paddy Considine playing Viserys I Targaryen, king of Westeros when the story begins, with Milly Alcock and Emma D’Arcy playing his daughter and heir Rhaenyra. Matt Smith also stars as Viserys’s brother Daemon.
Alongside this, Olivia Cooke plays Viserys’s second wife Alicent, Rhys Ifans has been cast as Alicent’s father and Hand of the King, Otto Hightower, and Steve Touissant appears as the “Sea Snake” Corlys Velaryon. Star-studded indeed.
