Glasgow University has quite an extensive history, having first been established in 1451. This makes it the fourth-oldest university in the English-speaking world. Nevertheless, Glasgow is still a bustling modern university with many opportunities to offer. It consists of four colleges, the College of Arts, the College of Medical, Veterinary & Life Sciences, the College of Science & Engineering, and the College of Social Sciences. Between these colleges, there are a wide variety of courses students can take. If you’re considering attending Glasgow University, you’ll probably want to know how many other students will be in your cohort. While both small and large universities have their strengths and weaknesses, student population can be a determining factor, depending on what you want your student experience to be like.

The College of Arts at Glasgow University currently has 4037 undergraduate and 1406 postgraduate students. The College of Medical, Veterinary & Life Sciences has 5017 undergraduate and 2071 postgraduate students. The College of Science & Engineering has 6145 undergraduate and 2818 postgraduate students. The College of Social Sciences has the largest population with 6031 undergraduate and 7286 postgraduate students. Overall, this means the university has a population of 21,230 undergraduate and 13,581 postgraduate students, or 34,811 total students. This makes Glasgow a large university, and prospective students can expect the wide array of course offerings and societies that come with that status.

Is Glasgow a good student city?

While Glasgow is known for its poor weather, it more than makes up for it with everything else it has to offer. It has over 90 parks and gardens, making it a very green and walkable city. Public transport is well-connected and easy to use. With a wealth of different nightclubs and live music venues, you’ll have no trouble finding something fun to do on the weekends. Plus, the culture is hard to beat: Glaswegians are known for being warm and welcoming with a sense of humour. You’ve got to admire the commitment to keeping a traffic cone on the statue of the Duke of Wellington.
