Luckily, the app lets you add tunes to your stories, but it might not be obvious how. Here’s how to add songs and music to your Instagram story to step up your digital diary game.
Instagram stories are the perfect way to show quick snippets of your day to your followers. Not only can you always view who’s seen it, but it’s less permanent than posting on your grid. Often, we want to show something cute, a little dramatic or just add a little extra to our Instagram game. That’s where your favourite songs come in. The feature shows you mean business when it comes to Instagram and makes your stories a little more personal and interesting. How To Add Music To Your Instagram Story
If you’re only used to uploading a photo or video and maybe a little bit of text with it, then the idea of adding music and other features may be a little daunting. Don’t worry — it’s super easy.
You probably know how to add a story, but just in case, you’ll need to click the square with a plus symbol in the top right corner. It is the first of three icons, the second being your notifications and the third being your DMS. It will presume that you want to add a post, but just select the second option in the bottom right corner where it says ‘Post Story Reel Live.’ You can either take a photo or video right there and then, or select one from your library.
Once you’ve got what you want to post, you can add music to your Instagram story. Go to the stickers icon at the top of the screen, it’s the peeling square with a smiley face in the middle. Scroll until you see the white sticker labelled music, it will be animated with three lines moving up and down in a pink font. It should be fairly near the top, so if you’ve scrolled for a while then you’ve gone too far!
Instagram will then suggest some songs for your story. However, if none of them are what you want then you can search for your favourite song and hope that it’s on their database. Unfortunately, not every single song is available, but there are so many that you’ll definitely find one you love or that conveys the right emotion for your story.
More Ways To Add Songs To Your Instagram
Instagram also suggests another way of adding music to your stories before you’ve even selected your post.
The site says that if you swipe below the record button then a music option should appear. You then pick the song you want and it will play in the background of the video. That way, you can hear it as you record and anyone who views your story will hear it alongside the video too!
This option doesn’t appear to be available in the UK currently. So, it could just be US Instagram users that have this feature. However, anyone in the UK can always play the desired sound out loud, mute their video and then add the song in through Instagram afterwards! A little more complicated but it still gets the job done!
