How To Create The Ultimate Picnic

With the sun beaming and birds chirping, there is nothing better to do than call your pals, grab a basket and head out for a picnic. Many of us may need a recap on how to create the ultimate picnic though, as there haven’t been many occasions to have one recently.

Fantastic Food

Food is the main component in your picnic, so you want to get this right. If there are multiple people joining you, take a consensus on what kind of food everyone wants and try to pack something for everyone.

You want to be mindful of what you pack though. If you have food that is typically stored in the fridge, you need to keep it as cool as you can for as long as possible. This can be foods such as pies, dairy and desserts, which can go off or leak if kept in the sun for too long. You don’t want to create the ultimate picnic and have to throw half of your snacks away.

Maximise Hamper Space

Of course, you are going to want to bring as much as you can to make this the ultimate picnic. So, you have to maximise the space you have in your hamper/bags.

The best way to go about this is using containers for as much as you can. This will keep your food cool, preserved (not squished) and, if you are smart about it, allow for maximum space.

Bring Surfaces

Eating on the floor is the whole point of a picnic, but you don’t want to be eating off the literal floor. Be sure to pack some surfaces to eat from such as paper plates, small trays or even get one person to bring a briefcase or small trunk that everyone can share.

Depending on what vibe you are after for your picnic, you may or may not want to bring utensils. Some people go for a hands approach, where you just have at whatever you can see and eat it. Others may go for a more civilised approach and bring paper knives and forks just to give your picnic that edge.

Comfort

The idea of sitting in a field with your friends is a great, but in reality, your bottom is going to get sore, you will get cold, and your back will ache. To combat this, think ahead!

Assign someone the task of ‘comfort counsellor’ and they can bring blankets, cushions and maybe even pillows. It may look a little weird in the height of the afternoon, but come late evening, everyone will be envious of your cushy set-up.

Find Your Perfect Spot

Whether you like the direct sun or go right for the shade, you need to make sure that you find the perfect spot for your picnic. A bad location can ruin the whole mood, even if you have all the right food.

If you are in a busy park, be sure to avoid big groups who may have to keep walking around you. Try to stay away from dog parks, as they will want to sample your lovely food: who can blame them? And depending on how much background noise you want; you are going to want to find a spot further away from any play areas or family sections.

Whatever vibe you are going for, be sure to think about it before you put your roots down in one section.
