A TikTok trend has been doing just that, with a couple of different options to choose from.

If you want to be where the people are, then that’s definitely TikTok at the minute. With over a billion users, it’s taken over the internet. And the latest trend, sharing new ways to style your hair, proves that the social media app can be super helpful.
Already, the Scandi hairline trend has inspired many on TikTok, but it’s not stopping there.
The mermaid hair hashtag has over a billion views with thousands of videos attached to it. Though they aren’t all to do with the viral trend doing the rounds, it shows how much we all want to have mermaid hair.
Some have been choosing to add multiple colours to their hair to give it an ombre rainbow look, However, most have been going for a classic wave.
Now, a hair tool is revolutionising the look, making wavey hair easier to obtain than ever.
How To Do The Mermaid Wave Trend On TikTok
Pick from your favourite mermaid look and recreate it yourself!
- Using a curler
This is probably the most common way of creating the TikTok mermaid waves, but it does require buying some curlers. Specifically, you’ll want to by the crimping curlers. You don’t want ringlet curls with this look, but defined waves and the crimper will definitely help with that.
You can find lots of different versions on Amazon or more. Use some heat-resistant spray and some hairspray or mousse afterwards to keep your hair protected and to hold the style better.
Hold your hair in the curlers for three seconds before moving down the section to get them super defined. The video above should help you with your technique, but don’t be surprised if it takes some practice.
- Waves and plaits
Another way of getting the perfect TikTok mermaid waves doesn’t require any purchase, apart from product if you don’t already have it.
For this, we recommend putting your hair into several plaits when it’s damp. If you want the best results, we recommend pinning it into a silk scarf and sleeping on it. Make sure it’s been conditioned, with leave-in helping with the waves the most.
When you’re ready to take it down, carefully pull the plaits party, adding some sea-salt spray and hairspray to hold it in place. After that, take 3 or 4 smaller sections in your inner and outer hair and make little plaits, tying them with elastics or little coloured clasps.
