TikTok has announced a new feature limiting the amount of time that under-18s use on the app. Teens will now be able to scroll on the app for only an hour a day. The intent behind the change is to help young people manage their time on the app, and avoid spending too much of their day on screen time. The change will be rolled out automatically in the coming weeks. However, for those who want to keep using the app as they have previously, the time limit is fairly simple to circumvent. Here is how the one hour TikTok limit works and how to get around it.

How Does The Time Limit Work?
The time limit will work differently depending on the age of the user. For those aged 13 and younger, once the 60 minutes of time on the app is up, a parent or guardian will need to input a passcode to enable an additional 30 minutes of screentime. There have already been restrictions on these users, with accounts unable to comment or send messages on the app.
Parents who want to implement restrictions that cannot be overridden can do so using the ‘family pairing’ feature on the app. This feature also allows them to mute notifications at night time.
For those aged 14-17, a passcode prompt will also appear after an hour, only they can enter the passcode themselves rather than requiring parental permission. Teens will also receive a notification with data about their screentime each week.
How To Get Around One Hour TikTok Limit
The restriction can be avoided fairly easily, however. For one, it’s simple enough to simply enter the passcode and continue. The app will encourage the user to set a new restriction if they’re online for more than 100 minutes. The idea is that the person will make an active decision to stop using the app at a certain point, but these can continue to be reset indefinitely.
Even the passcode-entering component is optional. All a user has to do to turn the hour limit off is to go to their settings and disable the feature.
Plus, young people have been misrepresenting their age since the Internet began. There is nothing to stop a teen from creating an account saying they are older than they really are and avoiding the feature altogether.
