Just days after announcing she’s given birth to her second baby Grimes has confirmed she’s split with Elon Musk – but is she dating Chelsea Manning?
The singer – who’s real name is Claire Boucher – revealed to Vanity Fair she and Musk recently had a baby girl via surrogacy which they’ve called Exa Dark Sideræl, or ‘Y’ for short.
What happened to Elon and Grimes?
Musk and Grimes were first linked together back in 2018 when they appeared on the Met Gala red carpet together.
Since then the pair have weathered rumours of several splits and now have two babies together. Grimes confirmed the pair had their second baby – a girl called Exa Dark Sideræl, or ‘Y’ for short – in December 2021 via surrogacy.
The 33-year-old gave birth to their first baby, X AE A-Xii , in May 2020, and whom she and Elon call ‘X’ – there’s definitely a theme with the names.
However, after the article went live on Thursday, March 10, Grimes took to Twitter to say since the interview her and Elon have broken up ‘again’ – her words not mine.
The ‘Oblivion’ singer said in a stream of tweets this would likely be her last ‘traditional’ press interview because she’s ‘pretty private person’.
She wrote: ‘This is the last time I’ll do any traditional press cuz I’m a pretty private person. Haven’t done press in a long time cuz my personal life is so mad and I think it’s hard to foreground my work but also maybe it’s all intertwined at this point.’
Who is Chelsea Manning?
Chelsea Manning is a former US soldier and you may know her for making headlines in the early 2010s for leaking hundreds of thousands of documents to WikiLeaks.
She was subsequently sentenced to 35 years in prison after being found guilty of 20 crimes – including six violations of the Espionage Act.
However, in January 2017, President Barack Obama commuted Manning’s remaining prison sentence after she had served seven years.
In March 2019, Manning was jailed again after she refused to testify before a grand jury that was investigating Wikileaks and its founder Julian Assange.
She served a two-month sentence before being released, however she was then put behind bars for a second time -she was eventually freed in March 2020.
Manning came out as transgender days after she was sentenced in 2013.
Are Grimes and Manning Together?
Things aren’t always crystal clear publicly when it comes to Grimes’ relationship status – she did say in the interview her and Elon were in a ‘fluid relationship’ – but, according to Page Six, she’s dating Manning.
A source told the publication: ‘They’re getting serious. They U-Hauled it. They’ve been living together in Austin.’
However, this doesn’t fully confirm their relationship status as neither have commented on it or responded to the article.
In recent months the pair have have been interacting on Twitter and some fans think certain messages have hinted at the possibility of a relationship.
In December, Grimes tweeted: ‘Celebrity culture is suffocating a f. I’m not quitting music, but def changing my main day job after BOOK 1. Music industry feels old and tired, reliant on archaic systems.’
Manning then replied ‘vouch’ and Grimes responded to her saying: ‘Since I seem to be taking ur word as final these days.’
