At the end of October this year, the BBC released all the episodes for the new show Pretty Little Liars Original Sin but is it worth watching?
The original Pretty Little Liars was a much-loved teen show that started in 2010 and ended in 2017. The show followed five girls being tormented and bullied by a mysterious unknown character.
What started as anonymous texting grew into a full-on crazed abduction and the show quickly became a thriller series.
This is what this new show is based off, with Marlene King returning as director.
Of course, they could not have the exact same storyline so already there are some different features to this series compared to the original.
Warning: Spoilers ahead…
What Is Original Sin About?
The story starts 20 years ago, when a tragic event and suicide of a troubled girl named Angela takes place on New Year’s Eve 1999.
Here you see five girls feeling guilty and to blame for what happened as they turned their back on their friend. Flash forward 20 years and it is that previous group of teenagers’ daughters who are being held to account for the sins of the past.
They go through their own trials and tribulations and bond as a unit to get themselves through it.
The main character, Imogen, is a pregnant teen and in episode one her mother takes her own life.
What the girls soon seem to realise is that events in their life are dramatically taking a negative turn and this could not all be coincidence.
There is someone, as in the original Pretty Little Liars , who has it out for them – A.
This masked character is seen throughout the show, but their identity is unknown.
Much like the original series, you watch as these young adults go through matters of the heart as well as trying to deal with their masked tormentor while protecting their loved ones as best as possible.
For somewhat of a remake, Original Sin is a nail-biter of a show and an extremely good watch.
It has the same vibe and aesthetic as Pretty Little Liars but with up-to-date references and a darker setting from the off.
If you are someone who likes a slasher series as well as a psychological thriller, this one’s for you.
All the episodes of season one are available on BBC and a season 2 has been announced and coming soon!
