LGBTQ+ Christmas Films To Watch This Year

Christmas is right around the corner! Which means only one thing: blankets, hot chocolate and a great Christmas film. We all know the usual festive classics, but here are some of our favourite LGBTQ+ Christmas films to watch this year.

Happiest Season

This 2020 film follows Abby (Kristen Stewart) and Harper (Mackenzie Davis) as they finally go back to Harper’s family home. However, there is one small issue. She hasn’t come out to her family yet. Already there, Abby must pretend that she and Harper are just roommates, despite Abby having planned to propose on Christmas morning.

As Abby grows weary of the lies, Harper has to decide whether the lies are worth losing Abby. Happiest Season is written and directed by Clea DuVall, who has said that the film has a semi-autobiographical feel to it for her.

Single All The Way

This film focuses on Peter, played by Michael Urie, who convinces his best friend Nick, played by Philemon Chambers, to pretend to be his boyfriend when he goes home for Christmas. This is because Peter is always the single one at family gatherings and he is tired of it.

However, this year is different. His mother (Kathy Najimy) has set him up on a blind date. As the festivities go on, Peter must decide on who he actually wants to be with, if anyone at all.

Other cast members include Luke Macfarlane, Barry Bostwick and Jennifer Coolidge.

The Bit*h Who Stole Christmas

This is no ordinary Christmas film, it is a drag queen-filled Christmas film! The Bitch Who Stole Christmas stars RuPaul Charles and some 20 other RuPual’s Drag Race alumni including Brooke Lynn Hytes, Peppermint, Jan Sport, Gottmik and Kelly Mantle.

The films official description reads:

“In the draggiest Christmas movie ever made, a workaholic big-city fashion journalist is sent to a Christmas-obsessed small town to dig up a story when she finds herself in the middle of cut-throat housewives, a high-stakes ‘winter ball’ competition, and a sinister plot that could destroy Christmas fore-evah!”
