Unfortunately, not every film ever made is going please the audiences around the world. While the movie industry is on the up and up following the pandemic, some releases still aren’t to everyone’s taste. Or they were but barely broke even during its box office run. Here are the 2022 movies that flopped.

The films aren’t particularly bad, but they clearly did not appeal to cinemagoers.

Moonfall

Moonfall came out in February 2022 and it wasn’t all it was madd out to be. Many people had high hopes for a great blockbuster with an alien invasion but did not quite hit home for fans of Roland Emmerich’s directing.

Moonfall had a production budget of $150 million but the film pulled $44.34 million from audiences. Moonfall is possibly one of the biggest box office bombs of all time.

The Northman

Many people were really looking forward to the Northman. It was going to be one of the best movies of the year. With Anya Taylor-Joy, Alexander Skarsgård and Nicole Kidman audiences had really high hopes.

However, it was a big box office flop. It had a budget of $90 million but only made two thirds of that budget back.

Morbius

Many people were really looking forward to seeing Jared Leto as the superhuman vampire Morris. But many were left disappointed.

While it didn’t flop on release weekend and earned more than $160 million globally, it suffered a 74% drop in its second week.

However, studios do not earn back the $160 million the movie earns at the box office

Morbius only just broke even in its theatrical run and many were not a fan of the movie. It scored a mere 17% on Rotten Tomatoes. When it comes to 2022 movies that flopped, Morbius cannot be overlooked.

Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore

Fans had been looking forward to the next instalment of the Fantastic Beasts movie for years.

The movies are hard to make and, with the COVID-19 pandemic, it meant it was delayed quite a bit.

However, it wasn’t what fans wanted it to be. Its production budget was $200 million and its total global box office $388 million.

Once again, the studio doesn’t get all that money as a lot of it goes towards marketing. People weren’t a fan of the story either, with the movie scoring 47% on Rotten Tomatoes.

It will be interesting to see which of the most anticipated movies of 2023 will flop at the box office and which will be hugely successful. There’s not long to find out as 2023 is just around the corner.
