The winter months are a perfect time to curl up on the sofa with a blanket and a cup of cocoa and watch some TV. There are plenty of holiday releases on the horizon, as well as the regular release schedule from your favourite streaming services. So, if you’re looking to start a new show or simply add one to the list, here are the most anticipated TV shows coming in December.
Three Pines
Based on the Chief Inspector Gamache series of novels by Louise Penny, Three Pines is a mystery series which will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on 2 December. Follow the detective Armand Gamache as he investigates a series of murders in a village in Quebec known as Three Pines. The show stars Alfred Molina as Gamache, who finds himself drawn to the unusual residents of this small town and ends up unearthing some long-buried secrets. If you’re a fan of dark and suspenseful mysteries, this series is right up your alley.

1923
Whether you’re a fan of Yellowstone or not, its new prequel series 1923 may capture your interest. With a star-studded cast including Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren, this Western drama follows the Dutton family as they navigate the Great Depression, which hit Montana years before the rest of the nation, Prohibition and the continuation of Western expansion. The series also serves as a sequel to the series 1883. 1923 will premiere on 18 December on Paramount+.
Hot Skull
Hot Skull is a Turkish mini-series about an epidemic that spreads not through germs but through speech. This dystopian sci-fi show follows Murat Siyavus, a linguist who appears to be the only one immune to the virus. Dark, gritty, and with a thought-provoking premise, Hot Skull will definitely be worth a watch. It premieres on 2 December on Netflix.
National Treasure: Edge of History
For fans of the National Treasure films, Christmas has come early. National Treasure: Edge of History is a spinoff series which will premiere on Disney+ on 14 December. Promising the same spirit of adventure and fun that made the original film a cult classic, this new series will be told from a different perspective, that of Jess Valenzuela, a 20-year-old Dreamer on a quest to uncover her family history.
The Recruit
If you’re in the mood for a spy-adventure series, then Netflix has just the thing. The Recruit follows Owen Hendricks, played by Noah Centineo, a lawyer for the CIA who finds himself entangled in international politics when an asset tries to cut loose from the agency. The Recruit premieres on 16 December.
