The bonus episode is made of two parts: A Dream of a Thousand Cats and Calliope, and comes after The Sandman was a massive hit on the streaming platform.

If you haven’t heard, where have you been? The adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman has quickly topped Netflix’s streaming charts, having almost two hundred million hours viewed in just two weeks. Starring Tom Sturridge as the eponymous ‘Sandman’ (or Dream or Morpheus or ‘My lord’ as the god of dreams and nightmares.

The adaptation follows Dream as he escapes his capture, only to realise his disappearance of 100 years has caused some serious damage to the waking and dreaming world. The show co-stars Jenna Coleman (Doctor Who), David Thewlis (Harry Potter) Gwendoline Christie (Game of Thrones) and so many more. Seriously, there’s someone you’ll recognise in every episode.

Mr Sandman, Bring Me Another Episode

Apparently, 10 episodes weren’t enough for Netflix or the fans. Although a second series hasn’t been confirmed yet (surely it’s only a matter of time!). Neil Gaiman teased earlier today (Friday 19) that more was coming, just not in a way we were expecting.

And, as if by magic, Netflix dropped a bonus episode today. Isn’t it nice when all our dreams come true?

Standalone from the series, the bonus episode is made of two parts, both as tantalising as each other.

What Happens In The Sandman Bonus Episode?

The first part, A Dream of a Thousand Cats, is animated and stars other Doctor Who alumni David Tennant, and A-lister James McAvoy. However, like the main series, there are plenty of familiar voices to be recognised. An adaptation of the original comic story, the episode follows it to a tee. So, if you were a fan of that particular storyline, you are in for a real treat.

The second part is live-action and stars Tom Sturridge, but also Melissa Mahut as the eponymous Calliope. Famously a Greek Muse, Calliope was captured in the comics and imprisoned by a 20th-century writer. Starring none other than (you guessed it!) Doctor Who’s Arthur Darville, it’s clear that Gaiman is a fan of the time-travelling show. After all, he has written two episodes including fan-favourite The Doctor’s Wife.

Not much has been said about either part (they were released today after all), but if they’re anything like the main series then they’re bound to be popular.
