Papa John’s new ‘bowl’ pizzas are being roasted by people on Twitter comparing it to a salad after the company wants people to be ‘excited’ about pizza again.
Last week the pizza chain announced its newest menu item the Papa Bowl, but the product misses out on what most would consider to be a vital part of the pizza, the crust.
Papa John’s ‘Bowl’ Pizza
Papa John’s announced the ‘crustless innovation’ last week saying three different types of the Papa Bowl would be the latest dishes on the chain’s menu, launching on August 22.
The company described the new product as: ‘Papa Bowls is everything you love about Papa John’s pizza without the crust – crisp vegetables, juicy meats, melty cheeses, and delectable signature sauces – all baked to piping hot perfection.’
According to the company the bowls come in three flavours: Italian Meats Trio, Chicken Alfredo and Garden Veggie. But, customers are able to build their own.
CNN tweeted out the company said they want to get people ‘excited about pizza again’ by launching the dish that’s all toppins and no base.
‘We are very excited to offer Papa Bowls as a new menu category and as a new way consumers can experience our premium ingredients,’ said Scott Rodriguez, Papa Johns Senior Vice President of Menu Strategy and Product Innovation.
‘Our signature crust continues to be a beloved favorite, but we know that sometimes customers crave something different. We want them to know we are committed to delivering on all of those cravings through our menu.’
Twitter Roasts Papa John’s Bowl Pizza
However, it seems people on Twitter were less than excited as the new product got instantly roasted by users who compared it a salad, a microwave meal, a casserole, and one person said if they want a ‘meat and cheese in a bowl I’m going to Chipotle’ – ouch.
Some people are even roasting the company saying people didn’t stop being ‘excited’ by pizza – it is pretty great – with one person saying the company thought of a ‘solution’ to a ‘problem they made’.
