‘Duel of the Fates’ can be heard playing in the new trailer for Obi-Wan Kenobi and people are absolutely losing it.
Disney+ finally dropped a trailer for the highly-anticipated series due to hit the streaming site on May 25 and in the background ‘Duel of the Fates’ is glaringly obvious.
What Is ‘Duel of the Fates’?
Hardcore Star Wars fans will know the iconic ‘Duel of the Fates’ orchestral piece from Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace during the moment Darth Maul first flared up his lightsabre to fight Padawan Obi-Wan and his master Qui-Gon Jinn.
Now, the prequel trilogy may have got a lot of stick for not being as ‘authentic’ as the original trilogy but it would be hard to argue it didn’t have some of the best work ever by John Williams – ‘Duel of the Fates’ included.
Just the sound of the orchestral work was enough to get fans very excited for the series and many took to Twitter to express the ‘chills’ the sound gave them, with one saying they cannot be calm hearing it.
What We Know So Far
The Obi-Wan series sees the return of Ewan McGregor as the Jedi – and Darth Vader’s former master – 17 years after his final appearance in the 2005 film Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith.
The upcoming Disney+ series is set 10 years after the events of the final prequel film and not only marks the return of McGregor, but also the return of Hayden Christensen in the role of Darth Vader.
If the trailer is anything to go by the Obi-Wan series won’t be a positive, upbeat, narrative, but dark – McGregor spoke about his character as ‘broken’.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly he said: ‘We find Obi-Wan at the beginning of our story rather broken, and faithless, and beaten, somewhat given up.’
Joining the cast are Moses Ingram, Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell and Benny Safdie.
Other than that and some pictures dropped in EW little is known about the storyline – May 25 cannot come soon enough.
