The hit Netflix show Riverdale is set to be cancelled after season 7 just as the show survived the latest cull by The CW network.
It was announced only last week Riverdale was one of the few programmes from the network to survive the latest cull by the broadcaster as Charmed, Dynasty, Roswell New Mexico and The 4400 were among the shows cancelled by since it was revealed the network was up for sale.
Goodbye Pops diner
According to TV Line ‘Pop’s diner is closing its doors for good’ after season 7 as the teen drama, inspired by Archie Comics, is coming to an end.
In an interview with CW Chairman and CEO Mark Pedowitz he said the show would be coming to an end as ‘seven years is the right amount’ but the show would be getting an ‘appropriate sendoff’.

He said: ‘I am a big believer in attempting to give series that have had long runs an appropriate sendoff. We had a long conversation with [executive producer] Roberto [Aguirre-Sacasa] yesterday, who is thrilled by this news, and we will treat the show in the manner it deserves…. We want to make sure it goes out the right way.
‘I think they, too, felt that seven years is the right amount,” Pedowitz added. “As a fan myself, I do want to do what is right for the show.’
It was expected though after Lili Reinhart, who plays Betty Cooper, sent fans into a spin during an Instagram Live in which she said season 7 would “probably be the last one” in December 2021.
More to come in season 7
Riverdale was renewed for Season 7 in March, along with fellow CW dramas The Flash, All American, Superman & Lois, Walker, Kung Fu and Nancy Drew.
Decider reported that when show-runner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa was asked whether the sixth season would be the last, he replied: “One of the great gifts about this season is we are exploring, yet again, a different genre, and I hope fans really respond to it. But there’s still so many things to discover about these characters.
“Things have only just started! There’s so much more to come. There’s still juice in the tank, as far as I’m concerned at least. As long as the show remains meaningful to people and people are invested in it, there’s definitely, gas in the tank.”
