Shaun King and Jameela Jamil are among the celebrities quitting Twitter after Elon Musk bought the social media site.

It was confirmed yesterday, Monday April 25, Musk’s bid to buy Twitter has been successful and he’s doing so for a cool $44 billion.

This has been to the joy of some, and the utter dismay of others. Several celebrities have expressed their dislike of the purchase and some have even announced they’ll be leaving the site.

Here is a list of a few celebrities quitting Twitter…

Shaun King Calls Out ‘White Power’

The activist and writer, King, deleted his Twitter account (not for the first time) yesterday not long after tweeting the 50-year-old’s purchase of the site is ‘about white power’.

In his tweet – which is now unavailable due to King leaving the site – the writer said: ‘At its root, Elon Musk wanting to purchase Twitter is not about left vs right. It’s about white power.

‘The man was raised in Apartheid by a white nationalist. He’s upset that Twitter won’t allow white nationalists to target/harass people. That’s his definition of free speech.’

Jameela Jamil leaves the ‘hell platform’

The Good Place actor hasn’t been quiet about her dislike of the idea of Musk buying Twitter and has been very vocal in the past on the subjects of sexism, misogyny, and feminism. On Monday, after Musk’s bid had been accepted, Jamil took to the social media platform to express her feelings on the matter.

She used her last tweet to say under Musk she feels Twitter will reach a form of ‘lawless hate, bigotry, and misogyny’.

Mick Foley’s ‘Serious Thought on leaving’

The wrestling legend, Mick Foley, hasn’t actually quit the platform yet, but he has stated his intention to do so. He put his decision down to the fact he doesn’t have a ‘good feeling about where’ Twitter is heading under Musk.

Musk wants them to stay

However, with the news of celebs leaving or threatening to leave the social media platform Musk has clapped back saying he hopes they remain – all in the name of ‘free speech’.
