So, it is no surprise that queer icon Fletcher is set to take on a new career path and appear on the new series of The L Word: Generation Q.
On 22 September Fletcher announced via Instagram that she will be joining the cast of The L Word: Generation Q for their third season.
She is no stranger to the show, as her song Bitter has been used in a previous episode.
Who Is Fletcher?
Cari Fletcher, known professionally as Fletcher, is an American singer songwriter.
She appeared on the first season of The X Factor, the American version and was put in a band under Paula Abdul’s mentorship.
Four years later, Fletcher released her single War Paint, which became the most viral song on Spotify.
Since then, she has released 25 singles and, in September 2022, she released her debut full-length studio album Girl of My Dreams.
Fletcher is openly queer, stating ‘I just exist. If someone needed to put me in some sort of category for themselves to better understand, I would say I identify as queer.’
‘It’s about energy. But I am attracted to strong feminine energy which just so happens to more likely than not be women.’
Her song Becky’s So Hot caused controversy on TikTok, as it details her ex-girlfriend’s new partner.
What is The L Word: Generation Q?
Produced by Showtime, The L Word: Generation Q is a reboot of The L Word which aired in the early 2000s. Both series follow a group of LGBTQ+ friends living in LA.
The newer series has been created by Ilene Chaiken, who wrote and produced the original.
Generation Q aired in December 2019 and, by January 2020, it had been renewed for a second series. In February 2022 it was announced that the series would have a third series.
Three of the original cast members have returned for the reboot and other original characters appear sparingly throughout the newer series.
The three main recurring characters are Better Porter (Jennifer Beals), Shane McCutcheon (Kate Moenning) and Alice Pieszecki (Leisha Hailey).
