Spider-Man star Andrew Garfield said he’s going to be taking a break from acting to ‘just be a bit ordinary for a while’.
In an interview with Variety yesterday, Wednesday April 27, the 38-year-old has said he’s going to be taking time out to ‘rest’ after a hectic year.
Time To Be ‘Ordinary’
The Golden Globe winner is fresh from a pretty non-stop year with roles in The Eyes of Tammy Faye, Tick Tick… BOOM!, reprising his role as Spider-Man, and the upcoming series Under the Banner of Heaven on FX, so it’s understandable why he’s decided to take a ‘rest’ from it all.
In the latest ‘Just for Variety, Garfield said: ‘I’m going to rest for a little bit. I need to recalibrate and reconsider what I want to do next and who I want to be and just be a bit of a person for awhile. Because as you know, that is a washing machine, that awards season.’
However, the recent Oscar nominee said he’s not complaining about all the fame and recognition for his star roles as he added: ‘I need to just be a bit ordinary for a while.’
Garfield In Under The Banner Of Heaven
Even though he’s set on taking a break fans won’t be disappointed as he is set to star in FX’s Under the Banner of Heaven.
In the mini-series Garfield is taking on the role of detective Jeb Pyre in the highly anticipated series inspired by the true crime bestseller of the same name by Jon Krakauer.
The series follows the events that led to the 1984 murder of Brenda Wright Lafferty – played Daisy Edgar-Jones – and her baby daughter in a suburb in the Salt Lake Valley, Utah.
The Disney+ synopsis of the series reads: ‘As Detective Jeb Pyre investigates events that transpired within the Lafferty family, he uncovers buried truths about the origins of the LDS religion and the violent consequences of unyielding faith. What Jeb, a devout Mormon, unearths leads him to question his own faith.’
Garfield warned the series isn’t light viewing as even the actors had to take time for self care and fun while filming.
He said: ‘I think it was actually a necessity for us to have game nights and go into nature and hike and you know, swim and dive and lakes and dance and eat good food so that we could really come back and fully give ourselves [to the work].
‘We had to keep on taking care of ourselves so that we can take care of the story.
The seven episode limited series also stars Sam Worthington, Denise Gough, Wyatt Russell, Billy Howle, Gil Birmingham, Adelaide Clemens, Rory Culkin, Seth Numrich, Chloe Pirrie and Sandra Seacat.
Disney+ has confirmed Under The Banner of Heaven will be coming to the streaming site, but hasn’t released the exact UK air date.
