Steve Carell’s latest movie Minion 2: The Rise of Gru isn’t even in cinemas yet and already he’s teasing fans about Despicable Me 4 – it’ll be the sixth movie in the franchise that’s helped him amass an impressive net worth.
The 59-year-old actor has teased fans he will be reprising his role as the lovable villain with a heart of gold for the sixth time, and this is just the latest in a long career for the Golden Globe-winning actor.

The Massachusetts-born actor may be best known for his role as Michael Scott in the long-running comedy series The Office, but his beginnings were actually on the radio and doing improv.
In the 1980s Carell studied for a history degree at Denison University in Granville, Ohio, from which he graduated in 1984. During his time at uni, he joined the student improvisational comedy troupe Burpee’s Seedy Theatrical Company and worked as a DJ at the campus radio station WDUB under the name ‘Sapphire Steve Carell’.

In 2005, Carell signed on with NBC to star in the American remake of the British series The Office. The series is a mockumentary that documents life at Dunder Mifflin, a mid-sized paper supply company where Carell played the character Michael Scott, the company’s regional manager.

In 2010 the world was first introduced to the Minions and Carell’s lovable villain Gru, in Despicable Me. The movie follows Gru’s life as it turns upside down when he becomes a reformed villain, a father to three adopted girls, and eventually a secret agent in its sequels.
The movie enjoyed major success and subsequently had two sequels, Despicable Me 2 and Despicable Me 3 and its two spin-off movies Minions and the upcoming movie Minions 2: Rise of Gru.
In the upcoming Minions movie, which is set in the 1970s Gru is a normal 12-year-old boy, who also happens to be obsessed with ‘The Vicious 6’ – a powerful and popular group of supervillains. Gru hatches a plan to become ‘evil enough’ to join the group after they’ve just ousted their previous leader ‘Wild Knuckles’.
However, things (of course) don’t go exactly to plan for Gru after he steals a precious stone from the group – with the help of Kevin, Stuart, Bob, Otto, and the other Minions – and suddenly finds himself the mortal enemy of the apex of evil.
While on the run from the group Gru receives an unlikely source of guidance from none other than the ousted bad guy ‘Wild Knuckles’.
Steve Carell Teases Despicable Me 4
Even though Minions 2: The Rise of Gru hasn’t even premiered in theatres yet, Carell has already been teasing fans with news of a fourth Despicable Me movie.
Speaking to Digital Spy he explained not only do they have plot details ready but he’s already headed to the recording booth.
He said: ‘I’ve started [recording]; we’ve done a couple of sessions so far. It’s a continuation of the story. Gru and Lucy [voiced by Kristen Wiig] are married; they’re a family at this point. It’s the next step in their world with the Anti-Villain League and how their kids are included in the whole process.
‘It’s the most logical next step in the continuation of their story as a family together.’
However, if that’s got you excited for the movie don’t hold your breath in anticipation as it’s not meant to land in cinemas until 2024.
