It turns out Taylor Swift really wanted to be in a Twilight movie, but the director thought her famous face would be ‘too distracting’.

In a podcast episode of The Twilight Effect, New Moon director Chris Weitz revealed Taylor Swift asked to be in the movie.

In the podcast, hosted by Twilight actress Ashley Greene, Weitz revealed that he and Swift shared the same agent at the time.

‘Taylor Swift and I had the same agent at the time, and he said, “Taylor would like to be in this movie – not because of you, but she’s a Twi-hard”‘, the director revealed.

Taylor Swift Twilight Hopes Dashed

In the interview, Weitz revealed that Swift was such a fan, that she was willing to be an extra. Her agent reportedly told him: ‘She will be someone at the cafeteria, or the diner, or whatever, but she just wants to be in this movie’.

Weitz rejected the offer, as he felt that having such a famous face in the background would be too much of a distraction. ‘The hardest thing for me was to be like, “The moment that Taylor Swift walks onto the screen for about five minutes, nobody is going to be able to process anything”‘, he said.

The director went on to share his regret, stating: ‘I was like, “wow, I could have been, like, hanging out with Taylor Swift, and maybe we could’ve been friends or something”‘.

He also worried about how Swift felt about the rejection, saying: ‘she must’ve just been like, ‘Who is this jerk who would say no?’ But sometimes, you make decisions and you go, “This is for the best of the film”‘.

Taylor Swift gets on the big screen

The same year The Twilight Saga: New Moon was released, Swift starred in Hannah Montana: The Movie. The singer released a single titled ‘Crazier’ for the movie and co-wrote the main track ‘You’ll Always Find Your Way Back Home’.

Although we’ll never get to see Taylor in Twilight, it’s fun to imagine what could have been. Past romances aside, would she have been team Edward or team Jacob? I guess we’ll never know, unless we get Twilight (Taylor’s Version).

The closest Taylor got to Twilight was taking part in a Saturday Night Live sketch parodying the movies.
