Netflix’s next book-to-TV adaptation The Midnight Club is coming just in time for Halloween and it has a cast and crew that know how to do horror.
The series, which is set to drop on the streaming site on October 7, is the third book adaptation by Mike Flanagan and Trevor Macy after they brought to life The Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor.
The Midnight Club
At a hospice, Rotterdam Home, for terminally ill young adults, eight patients come together every night at midnight to tell each other stories — and make a pact that the next of them to die will give the group a sign from the beyond. This seems like a harmless promise until the hospice becomes haunted and each member of the club is terrorised.
The show is based on the 1994 novel of the same name as well as other works by Christopher Pike.
Netflix recently released a teaser for the series in which each member of the Midnight Club says one verse of a macabre poem. Together, all the poem’s verses read: ‘To those before. To those after. To those near. And to those beyond. Seen or unseen. Here but not here.’ A nod to the dark plot.
The Midnight Club Cast
The Midnight Club is made up of eight young actors including Iman Benson as Ilonka, Igby Rigney as Kevin, Annarah Cymone as Sandra, Ruth Codd as Anya, Adia as Cheri Ian, Chris Sumpter as Spencer, Aya Furukawa as Natsuki and Sauriyan Sapkota as Amesh.
First up is Igby Rigney who is no stranger to horror or working with Flanagan. Rigney joined the cast of Flanagan’s Midnight Mass, but now he’s moved on up taking on a lead role as Kevin.
Annarah Cymone is another alum from Flanagan’s Midnight Mass, but for her co-star Ruth Codd this is a debut role. Codd is an Irish actress and TikTok star before taking on the role of Anya.
Iman Benson is no stranger to the stage and screen, the 22-year-old recently starred in Uncle Buck, Alexa & Katie, and BlackAF.
Prior to this role, Aya Furukawa shot to fame in The Baby-Sitters Club and also had roles in Cabin in the Woods and The Terror.
Chris Sumpter is also a newcomer but is set to star in a second movie this year, NYC Dreams, similar to final co-star Sauriyan Sapkota who will be making their debut in the series.
Robert Longstreet, Matt Biedel, Crystal Balint and Zach Gilford also star in the show.
