‘Artic Saviour’ failed to wow Lord Sugar when apprentices misspelled the title.
Thursday night’s episode saw Francesca Kennedy-Wallbank become the fifth of Lord Sugar’s apprentices to be fired.
Series 16 has been sufficiently brutal this year, with Lord Sugar certainly not holding back in the boardroom, branding the previous week’s losing team as the worst failure ever in the show’s history.
The latest task involved creating a video game to pitch to industry experts and gain investment for further development.
Spelling the end
Team Infinity – who created prison escape game ‘Time’ – got £60,000 worth of investments. In contrast, Team Diverse received no investment from experts who branded their global warming awareness game ‘Artic saviour’ as ‘simple’. The misspelling of the word ‘Arctic’ ultimately brought Francesca’s time on The Apprentice to an end.
Twitter had mixed reactions as many argued project manager Brittany Carter was to blame for creating a video game too ‘worthy’ to be enjoyable. Despite differing opinions, the general consensus was that the concept was wasted on a video game. In Lord Sugar’s words Brittany, “produced a documentary in the form of an arcade game”
‘Francesca you were responsible for the name, the character the tease, none of them were any good’, Lord Sugar said. ‘How can you deal with someone who can’t even spell the blooming name.’
One Twitter user posted a screenshot of a conversation which reads “I’ve got a great idea for a game”[sic]…“Home Office Simulator.”
Another user said, ‘Found the missing C’ in reference to the ‘turd-like’ cruise logo featured in Episode 1 of the series.
One user wrote that the Artic Saviour ‘looks like Boris Johnson on his way to a ski party that didn’t happen during the lockdown’.
Another referenced the extremely awkward moment one of the experts, Ian, asked Akshay, dressed as a penguin how many penguins were in the Arctic.
The user shared a picture of Ian Livingstone, who launched Tomb Raider in 1996 captioned “Just want to put it out there that I think this guy should win The Apprentice this year”.
Ian later remarked: ‘I believe there aren’t any penguins in the Artic, they’re all in the Antarctic’.
Failing fast
The cringe-worthy response from Twitter is pretty fitting for this season’s mishaps.
Lord Sugar made a surprise visit to The Apprentice House at the end of Thursdays episode to inform the candidate of their upcoming task. He announced the candidates will be off to North Wales, to create a bespoke tour and conquer the tourism industry- the fasting growing industry in England.
