A good way to occupy your time is by reading. It can be an escape. A lot of the time with a book, you’ll wish that it never ended. That is why book series can be a great thing. When you’re reading a book series, you have the joy of continuous reading! Up until the last book, of course. But until then, a book series will occupy your time and give you a real pleasure that a one-off book can’t. So, here are some of the best book series you’ll wish you started ages ago.
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
What young adult genre lover hasn’t read The Hunger Games? That being said, just because they’re written for young adults, it doesn’t mean that nobody else can read them! This book series is popular with readers of all ages, and for very good reason. If you’re a fan of dystopian literature, this is the series for you. There are four books in total, three that are chronological, and the fourth acting as a prequel to the first three.
If you’ve seen the films, you’ll know the plot. For those that haven’t, The Hunger Games follows Katniss Everdeen in a dystopian country called Panem. In Panem, there is a rich Capitol, and thirteen districts that are all in a state of poverty. They all specialise in a certain trade too. Each year, two children from the first 12 districts are selected through via lottery to compete in a battle royale death match, called The Hunger Games. The books essentially explore the origins behind The Hunger Games. It has love, death, and lots of science fiction.
The Shopaholic Series by Sophie Kinsella
If you’re a lover of chick-lit, this is the perfect series for you. There are 10 books in this series. It follows the life of Becky Bloomwood, a financial journalist and self-proclaimed shopaholic. This series is funny and heart-warming, with a little bit of serious too. Each book follows an event in Becky’s life and the outcomes of that. Becky is a really likeable character, with a personality that gets you swept up in the books.
As of 2019, there are 10 books in this series. They’re not too long, unlike some texts, so they’re great to read on the bounce. You definitely won’t get bored of Becky Bloomwood.

A Song of Ice and Fire by George R. R. Martin
This one may ring some bells, because it’s the inspiration behind A Game of Thrones. A lot of people didn’t know that the hit TV series was actually based on a book series. It’s certainly worth the read, especially if you love fantasy novels! In this book, you get the perspective of the Stark children, Jon Snow, Tyrion and Daenerys. All of your GOT favourites.
As of writing, there are five books in this series. A sixth is forthcoming, and a seventh is currently being planned. This is a series that will take you a while to get through but is definitely worth the read.
There are so many more beloved book series aside from these three. Maybe you prefer sticking to Harry Potter, or favour Bridget Jones over Becky Bloomwood. Whatever the case, book series are some of the best things out there!
