The Best Cat Cafes In The UK

Zoe Kramer January 24, 2023

Since the first cat cafe opened in Taiwan back in 1998, the concept has caught on and spread all across the world. Not only are they delightful, but they’re also for a good cause. Many of these establishments have served as a way for rescue cats to find their forever homes, as well as for customers to enjoy the therapeutic benefits of spending time with these animals. So if you want to spend an afternoon having a light meal or beverage while in the company of some feline friends, here are the best cat cafes to try in the UK.

Maison de Moggy, Edinburgh

Located near Edinburgh’s Grassmarket, Maison de Moggy is supported by a local vet centre, and there’s always a ‘cat nanny’ at hand, so you know the cats are well looked-after. They have a variety of breeds, from sphynxes to maine coons. They have a nice selection of beverages and baked goods, with gluten free options available. You can even grab some cute merchandise on your way out.

Tabby Teas, Sheffield

Tabby Teas has 11 cats to play with, all of which are rescues. The cats were selected with care to ensure the cafe was comfortable for them. Thanks to house rules and the booking system, the cafe is never overcrowded, which makes for a great environment for cats and guests alike.

Lady Dinah’s Cat Emporium, London

Located in East London, Lady Dinah’s is the first cat cafe to be established in the UK back in 2013, and it is truly the cat’s meow. You can choose from a variety of activities, from their pinot and pawtraits event, cat yoga sessions, birthday parties, cream tea, a cocktail hour and more. The decor is fun too, with a whimsical English tearoom theme.

Kitty Cafe, Birmingham

Kitty Cafe has become an institution, with locations in Nottingham, Leeds, Birmingham and Leicester. Their fun, brightly coloured and open spaces are the perfect place to relax and give the cats some TLC. They have lots of delicious food to offer, with full meals available and plenty of vegan options.

Pawsome Cat Cafe, Durham

This lovely little cafe hosts both permanent resident cats as well as fosters that are available for adoption. So, if you fall in love with one of the cats, enquire about them. Who knows, maybe their next home could be with you! They serve hot and iced tea and coffee as well as delicious desserts.
