Just in time for Halloween, TikTok’s latest trend is fittingly spooky. Some users are making claims that writing “F74” on your wrist in red ink before sleeping will send you to a nightmare dimension called Floor 74.
What is Floor 74?
An account called @floor74info posted the original explanation of Floor 74 and the rules of how it works with an audio of London Bridge is Falling Down, a fittingly haunting tune. These were originally posted back in May, but the trend has been gaining more traction recently.
Supposedly, once you’ve fallen asleep and arrived at Floor 74, your task is to find a blank door. This door is what will allow you to wake up and escape. If you don’t find it within 10 hours, you will be trapped. The account also explains that you will feel a presence behind you, but you shouldn’t look back or you will be taken to a place called the white room. To escape the white room, you have to bang on the walls loud enough to wake yourself up. Sounds like a good time, right?
The trend has become incredibly popular, with users posting themselves writing “F74” on their wrists and trying it out themselves. Some have also incorporated their profile pictures into the trend, changing the picture based on the outcome of the challenge. #F74 now has a staggering 92.5 million views.
This isn’t the first time a TikTok trend has involved alternate dimensions, either. A less frightening and more wish-fulfillment themed version of this challenge was reality shifting, which became popular in early 2021. The idea was that following certain practices while falling asleep could transport to a fictional or imagined universe. Some users claimed to spend months or even years in other worlds.

The F74 trend follows in the vein of Creepypastas and other horror stories borne of the Internet. It seems to be mostly harmless fun.
