This year is almost over. How can it be? It feels like 2022 has just begun. However, there still are quite a few movies to round up the year, in theatres and on Netflix. But get ready to run to the cinema because you will not want to miss out on any of these upcoming releases. These are up there with the most anticipated movies of 2023.
From Marvel movies, DC movies to science fiction like Dune Part 2 there is going to be something for everyone. And many sequels to movies we’ve all loved before.
Ant Man and The Wasp: Quantumania

Paul Rudd returns as loveable Scott Lang/Ant Man alongside the Wasp/Hope Van Dyne. Lang and Van Dyne and their daughter Cassie, alongside Hope’s parents Hank and Janet get stuck in the Quantum Realm. They find themselves having to interact with strange creatures and will be pushed beyond their known limits.
The movie sees Rudd star as Lang and Evangeline Lilly as Hope. Alongside them will be Michael Douglas as Hank Pym and Michelle Pfeiffer as Janet van Dyne. Newcomer to the scene is Kathryn Newton as Cassie Lang.
Given the popularity of the MCU, there is doubt this is one of the most anticipated movies of 2023. Especially because this will set up the next big battle.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods

Shazam! Fury of the Gods is the sequel to the original movie. Shazam takes on the villainous Hespera and Calypso, the daughters of Titan Atlas. The first movie was devoted to setting up the story of Billy Batson as Shazam.
Zachary Levi is back as Billy’s superhero alter ego and Asher Angel is returning as 14-year-old Batson. Dijon Hounsou returns as the ancient wizard who gave Billy his powers. In addition, Helen Mirren will join the cast as Hespera, while Lucy Liu joins as Calypso daughter of Atlas. Rachel Zegler is also joining the cast, although the details of her role are still unknown.
The Super Mario Bros Movie

Everyone knows who Mario is. Mario Kart and Nintendo games have been a staple in most of our lives. Next year everyone’s favourite plumber is coming back to the big screen. Mario will travel with his brother Luigi to try to save the captured Princess Peach.
Chris Pratt will be voicing Mario, Charlie Day his brother Luigi and Anya Taylor-Joy will be voicing Princess Peach. This is bound to be a great movie with some great actors attached.
The Little Mermaid

We all grew up watching Disney movies. There was always something so fascinating, especially in movies like the Little Mermaid. It will follow the story of Ariel, daughter of King Triton ruler of Atlantica who falls in love with a human Prince Eric. In order to meet him above the water, she must make a deal with the sea witch Ursula.
Halle Bailey will star as Ariel. Bailey is known for her incredible singing voice as she and her sister Chloe sang together for many years going as far as being recognised by Beyoncé and being awarded the 2020 Rising Star award. Melissa McCarthy will star as Ursula, and Jonah Hauer King is Prince Eric.
Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning

Ethan Hunt is back in another actionpacked Mission: Impossible. Tom Cruise is back alongside Ving Rhames , Simon Pegg and Rebecca Ferguson. Also joining the cast is Hayley Atwell, known for her role as Agent Carter in the MCU.
Unfortunately, not much is known about what the movie will entail, but it will follow the adventures of IMF agent Ethan Hunt. If the previous installments are anything to go by, the latest will be explosive and exciting.
Dune: Part Two

Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya are back in the epic movie. At the end of the first film, Paul Atreides united with the Fremen to avenge his family. We can expect to see him continue on this journey.
Rebecca Ferguson is returning as Lady Jessica Atreides but joining the cast is Austin Butler and Florence Pugh. They are two great actors we can’t wait to see together.
The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes

The prequel movie to the Hunger Games trilogy has actually just wrapped, ready for a release in November 2023. Tom Blyth and Rachel Zegler star as the young Coriolanus Snow and Lucy Gray Baird. Joining the cast is Euphoria’s Hunter Schafer as Tigris Snow. Viola Davis and Peter Dinklage are also involved.
The most anticipated movies of 2023 are a mixture of different genres and styles and we can’t wait to see them all.
