Over its short run, it’s had some massive names attached to it. Incredibly popular, fans of the play were excited to see who would be staring in it after the announcement of a new 2:222 cast. Now revealed, it seems the horror play has gone with a more understated cast, with Eastenders’ and One Tree Hill stars taking centre stage.

The cast of 2:22 has become a bit of a meme. Ever since it premiered last year, it’s had some big, yet random names attached to it. We’ve had singers turned actress Lily Allen and more recently Cheryl (formerly Cole) in the starring role. I’m A Celebrity winner Giovanna Fletcher also had a go, as well as Laura Whitmore.

Harry Potter star Tom Felton was in the play, as well EastEnders’ legend Jake Wood (Max Branning) in the latest run. Oh, and who could forget Stephanie Beatriz, who was none other than Mirabel in Encanto?

With so many random, yet wonderful names attached to the project, it’s clear to see why fans were eagerly anticipating the new 2:22 cast announcement today (April 13).

The New 2:22 Cast Has Been Revealed

The announcement seemed a little rushed, with the social media team only telling fans it was happening the day before. Not only that, it was originally confirmed to happen at 10 am, yet the official announcement didn’t surface until 12:05 pm.

We, as well as many others, can’t understand why you wouldn’t do it at 2:22, but that’s just us.

Plenty of guesses have been thrown around, yet it seems the production team for its latest run intends to show to really shine by using a less-well-known cast.

Taking over from May 14, the new 2:22 cast has Jaime Winstone as lead Jenny, supported by Clifford Samuel, Sophia Bush and Ricky Champ.

The play is also moving to the Apollo Theatre; it’s currently at The Lyric, so only next door.

Earlier this year, it was announced that the play, which has been well-loved by the theatre community, is going on tour around the UK. Currently, it’s unknown what cast will be taking the ghost story on the road.

Eastenders’ Stars Ricky Champ And Jaime Winstone Join 2:22

Probably the biggest names of the new cast, more Eastenders alumni are taking a stab at the horrifying play.

Known for portraying Stuart Highway in the soap, you may also recognise Ricky Champ from Him & Her, the BBC Three sitcom, as well as playing Gatins in series six of Game of Thrones. Now, he’ll be trying his hand in the multi-award-winning show as Ricky joins 2:22.

Fans of the soap will also recognise Jaime Winstone, but not for starring in Eastenders currently. Throw on a blonde wig and some dodgy 80s make-up, and Jaime played Peggy Mitchell in the flashback episode last year. The daughter of Ray Winstone played Barbara Windsor in the BBC biopic, Babs, in 2017 so was clearly perfect for the role.

Also joining the cast is American actress Sophia Bush. The ex-wife of Chad Michael Murray has starred in 00s classics One Tree Hill and Chicago P.D. With both having a huge following, we think fans will follow Sophia Bush to 2:22 to see how she fares in the ghost story.

Last but not least, the new 2:22 cast is completed by Clifford Samuel. The British actor starred in the critically acclaimed McMafia back in 2018.

There’s no doubt that this cast may not have such huge names that the play has had before. However, that only stands for its ability to stand on its own, without the draw of celebrity stars. We’re sure that the new cast will do a more than excellent job of terrifying audience members.
