These 'Cruel Intention' Stars Are Still Best Friends After Two Decades

Cruel Intentions may have premiered over 20 years ago, but stars Sarah Michelle Gellar and Selma Blair have remained best friends ever since.

Sometimes your soulmate doesn’t have to be the person you’re married to, it can be your best friend. Not many people can say they have had the same best friend for over two decades, but for Gellar and Blair, that is exactly what they have managed.

The duo met on the set for the 1999 film Cruel Intentions. Despite playing frenemies in the film, the two became great pals immediately. They even went on to win an MTV award for best kiss, after the two ‘practise kissing’ in the film.

Despite the duo’s amazing on-screen (and off-screen) chemistry, they never made another film together. Gellar went on to play the role of Daphne Blake in the 2002 Scooby-Doo film, as well as rocking in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Similarly, Blair played Vivian Kensington in 2001 classic Legally Blonde; a role which rocketed her into stardom.

In a 2019 interview, Gellar said: ‘I just can’t imagine my life without [Selma] standing next to me. Nobody makes me laugh, and nobody knows how to put me in my place faster than Selma does.’

Blair repliedL ‘Sarah’s my everything. I can’t tell you how much I love this woman.’

Later life

Gellar and Blair have continued their friendship into their later life, standing by each other through thick and thin.

In 2018, Blair took to Instagram to announce she had been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). This disease affects the brain and spinal cord, causing visual and mobility issues. Blair is now usually seen walking with a cane, however, even with the aid, she still looks as fashionable as she ever did.

Ever since Blair’s diagnosis, Gellar has stood by her best friend and done whatever she can to help. Gellar wrote on Instagram: ‘watching your friend face disease, you feel so helpless.’ However, after being introduced to ‘meal train’, Gellar began sending them to her friend, so Blair did not have to worry about making it to the shops.

Similarly, after Blair made a heartfelt speech at the Oscars, Gellar, naturally, was the first to applaud her.

We all continue to watch on as these two fierce friends continue to be the perfect pair. No doubt they will be together until the end of time!

Let’s hope we all find the Blair to our Gellar at some point in our lives.
