What Is The New TikTok Font And Can You Change It Back?

Add as preferred source on Google

TikTok is always adding new features and different ways to engage with the app. From the addition of the TikTok shop to sleep reminders and thumbnails, the developers are eager to try out new things. However, with its wide userbase, many TikTokers rely on the app as a daily fixture — and as a result, aren’t always excited to see things change. Most recently, users have suspected that the app’s font has changed, drawing out a range of different reactions. So, here’s a look at how the app is different than it used to be, and why people are angry that TikTok has a new font.

Did TikTok Change Their Font?

One of the most recent updates to TikTok is the use of a new font. No, you’re not just seeing things — the lettering in the app is different than it used to be. In fact, the app has a whole new look. It’s hard to know exactly how to describe it — more sleek and modern perhaps. But many users aren’t liking the new look.

“Ugly” and “Disgusting” were words some Twitter posters used to describe the May 15th update. Lots of people across social media expressed their distaste for the new font and their desire to switch back to the old one. But is the new font really that bad, or do people just not like change? Well, that’s for each individual to decide for themselves.

How Is The New Font Different

TikTok’s original font was Proxima Nova — Semibold, also known as Classic. This is the font that users have grown accustomed to seeing in video captions and across the app. For some, their social media displays remain showing the old font. However, for those who’ve had the update noticed that the letters are thinner and closer together. This creates a very different reading and visual experience.

Is It Possible To Change The Font Back?

Unfortunately, at the moment there isn’t a way to switch your TikTok display back to the old font. So, for those who dislike the new font, there doesn’t seem to be a workaround. Perhaps it will grow on you with time after the initial difference wears off. Or, it might be that TikTok will implement a way to switch it back in the future.
