Tom Hanks has confirmed he’s actually in an ABC promo video that went viral after fans thought they spotted the actor.
Today, August 2, the 66-year-old acting legend confirmed he was in a promotional video for ABC’s Autumn promo in 1980 after weeks of fans sharing it on social media.

Hanks took to Instagram to share a link to the promo video, now uploaded on YouTube, on his story not only confirming his presence in the shoot but that his hair was real.
In the video, several celebrities can be seen – including Henry Winkler, Tom Bosley and Diana Canova – to be singing and dancing for the ABC promo for the Autumn season of the stations 80s TV show.
Then at 1:26 in the video a young Tom Hanks can be seen side-stepping up the stairs as he sings with the ensemble cast, dressed in a white tux and rocking an incredible 80s afro – which, according to the actor, was 100% natural (no perms for Mr Hanks).
The Forrest Gump actor confirmed he was in the promo after fans began sharing the video on social media and tagging him – one person even said it was his ‘greatest work’.

Hanks is presumably in the promo as in November 1980 he would star in the ABC sitcom Bosom Buddies alongside Peter Scolari, when he was only really starting out his career as an actor. In the show, Hanks played the character Kip Wilson who, with his best friend, got up to several misadventures.
The two single men were working in creative advertising and struggling in their industry all while disguising themselves as women in order to live in the one apartment they could afford.
The show only ran for two seasons, until 1982, but the pair could be credited for using improvisation throughout the series.
Hanks would go on to find fame in the 1984 movie Bachelor Party before getting his big hit in Hollywood and really making a name for himself in the 1988 movie Big where he would earn his first nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actor. Of course, for Hanks, the rest is history and most recently he’s starred in Baz Luhrmann’s biopic Elvis.
